I have never asked for a raise, wondering how is the easiest way to ask?

Asking for anything can be scary, like asking someone out, the fear of rejection is strong. However, it is your life being affected and you need to step up for yourself.

Possibly the best, easiest and non aggressive way to approach the subject is to ask your boss if you can get a review of your work performance. This does 2 things, it allows the boss to take a look at what you do and how well you do it and let you know if you are doing good or have room for improvement and what it is. If you are doing well and he has just a few minor complaints, you can then ask for more money, showing that you are doing a good job. If there are some issues with your work performance, you can thank your boss for his honesty, tell him you will work on your problem areas and ask him then just what it will take for you to get a raise.

Approaching it in this manner allows 2 way communication and feedback, and you can see how your boss sees you on the job.

The best way to ask for a raise is go to your boss and ask him/her if they have a some type of evaluation program and ask them if that is a way of getting a raise.

Ask yourself honestly if you have earned a raise. What have you done to improve productivity, organization, information flow, sales performance, etc.?

Make a list and organize your thoughts on the subject before you approach your boss. How has having you as an employee been an advantage to the company. How would losing you be a detriment? You might want to practice presenting your case with a co-worker or friend before you go in, just to calm your nerves.

Research what similar jobs in your area pay. If you are undervalued at your current place, the empolyer probably knows it, and will not want you to jump ship. If you are earning in the top segment of the local economy, the employer will probably be reluctant to boost you very much. Have a dollar amount in mind, and be clear in presenting it, just as you would if you were recommending a change to a filing system or a change to the production layout.

Also, prepare yourself for a "no" answer. If you can't stand working there another moment for the pay, get a backup plan in place before you go to the supervisor. Also, if you do not have an alternative and are willing to work for them a while longer at the current rate, say that you appreciate having an opportunity to discuss it, and thank them for the time to evaluate. Then ASK for a specific time frame in which the supervisor thinks it would be appropriate to revisit the subject. When that time is up, go in and ask again, giving specific reasons why you should earn more.

"I've survived another 3 months of this place and therefore deserve more money" isn't an effective tactic, but I have heard it used! Good luck.

Ask for a raise immediately after you get a compliment from your boss.

take it easy, walk in slowly, ask to talk, and describe everything you've done.
then gradually, if you notice your boss is taking an interest in all of your accomplishments, say "I was wondering if i could maybe get a raise? I've worked here for *** years..."

Good LUCK!!!!!!!

I would recommend that you don't ask for a raise.

As a previous business owner, raises are extremely tough on a company. It's a permanent change that can never be retracted without serious consequence.

Our solution? Bonuses. When the company did well, the employees received a bonus. When the company did poorly, nobody got a bonus.

If we had given raises while the company was performing well, those raises would hurt the company while it was making adjustments or surviving during an off-market.

I suggest you request a meeting with your employer. You should sit down and express that you need to make more money. However, you should also explain that you understand how a raise can affect the bottom line for a company; you know it could be financially difficult for any company to commit to a long-term raise. Your suggestion is to get a bonus, that way nothing changes permanently for the company and you get some extra money to work with. Furthermore, you suggest a bonus every three months, depending of course on the health and direction of the company.

You will pretty much floor your boss if you go in with that approach. Most employees have a "me, me, me" perspective, and it's completely unfair to the company. If you sympathize with the company, you're employer will hold you in higher regard in all situations from that point forward.

Also, I recommend you talk directly to the decision maker. Do not talk to an in-between person who has their own agenda. You need to talk to the person who built the company, or the closest person to that position.

And, to sweeten things, make sure you say the persons first name a lot. If that is inappropriate, use Mr. or Mrs. or Ms. and their last name. When you speak of the company, everything is "we". Your word choice should indicate that you view the company as a family working together towards success.

Keep copies of all the "thank yous" for a good job, or other complements you receive from anyone for the job you're doing. Make notes of the things you've accomplished during the year (tasks you were given and completed in a timely fashion) -- at evaluation time present all this evidence and then ask. If you don't have an annual evaluation, just make an appointment with your supervisor and present this information, then ask. The question after that is, "what do you do if the boss says 'sorry, no can do.'"

Just walk in be like...."boss we need to talk, I have been working here for quite sometime now and I was wondering if I could have a raise?" Good luck.

GIVE ME A RAISE!

Realist
Start looking for a new Job. Once you get some interest from another company, ask your boss for the raise. If the boss doesn't come across, you can use your new job offer as leverage. If the boss still won't give you the raise, staying with that company is going to be tough. So, take the new job.

First look for another job - get a job offer - then ask your current boss for the raise!

You will automatically come across as meaning business - and your boss will sense that he really has to sort out a decent raise.
