Take it to your bank, talk to the bank manager, tell him everything and ask for his advice. There is usually no problem with cashing a cheque, but if it came from Nigeria then it is probably worthless. Don't worry. |

I don't think you have received a check from someone in nigeria. As you know, promises of money from nigeria are always a scam.
I think you are a spammer who is trying to get people to look upon these 'please help me dispose of my vast sums of money' scam emails more favourably. |

Unfortunately, the banks are allowed to clear a cheque and then realise several weeks later that its a fake - and retrieve the funds from your account. I was told this by someone whose family member works in the banking industry. |

Be wary my friend. I hope you haven't forwarded any goods or even money in exchange for the cheque because the chances are it will eventually bounce. Plus, if you are cashing it on behalf of someone else and then giving them the cash you could be guilty of money laundering...trust me, I know! |

Before doing anything you should read this article from Missouri:

The check is most likely a scam. Avoid it at all costs. |

There's a scam presently going on for some time now where as your sent a check, you cash it and the follow 6 weeks when you have spent it all it comes back as a dud!
You will be liable for repaying the full amount and possible interest too, failure to do so, incriminates you under terms of Fraud & Deception which if taken to court can also cost you a spell in prison.
Be very careful. |

this is a scam. we tried to sell a phone on ebay today and the winning bidder was someone from nigeria who said that they already had the cheque made out for a higher amount and wanted us to send the difference with the phone.
This is a common scam and we immediately told them where to go.
Foreign cheques take weeks to clear ( at least 4) so you would need to make damn sure that it was FULLY cleared before you release any funds to this person. Beware cos your bank may allow you to draw against the cheque days before it is guaranteed i.e.when the drawee bank has ran out of time whereby they are allowed to bounce it. Therefore you could end up thinking it is cleared but a few days later you could get a letter from your bank saying that has bounced.
My advise is to take nothing to do with it and if you suspect it to be a counterfeit cheque take it to the police |

Check out this link, if they have sent it for no reason I would be wary, and if for goods you are sending then be even more careful! |

You should receive a letter soon explaining that the cheque can't be used and that they will wire you even more money.
Please can we have your bank details.
Bye bye all your money.
Bin the thing and remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch |

Most people are right. Nigeria is notorious for this sort of thing. But seek advice from your bank just in case. |

Don't do it...Nigeria is notorious for 419 scams where they fraudulently obtain your banking details and empty your account. If you don't deserve the money..or know the person who sent it to you...throw the cheque away! |

If its drawn on a UK bank, phone the bank/branch that issued it - it could well be stolen or a fake and probably is
If it's not drawn on a UK bank you won't be able to cash it anyway
look at my Yahoo 360, BLOG - Fraud |

you must speak to the bank first..ask them if it is legal, if not they will advise you to either take it to the police or destroy it....The bank WILL know so instead ov just banking it and asking advice you are showing that you are being a responsible citizen by asking questions, therefore exonerating yourself from accusations of fraud |
