For at least one month, keep track of all your spending--write down where every last penny goes. When you look at the results, you'll probably see places where you can cut back on your spending.

Make a budget, including your necessary expenses and the money you want to save. You can consider the rest spending money, and don't spend more than that amount each week. If you want something that's not in the budget, wait and save up your spending money.

Try opening a savings account that is hard to access at random and have your paychecks and whatever either wholly or partially direct-deposited into the account.

Try the Digital Employees Credit Union (https://www.dcu.org). Even if you don't qualify to open an account by employer or whatnot, just buy a the cheapest organization membership listed and get the account that way. You only need $5 to open the account.

If your money is saved "away" from where you directly are, it will be harder for you to squander it.

That really depends on what kind of car you want to get. There's quite a range in price.

Why don't you lease a car? For that to work you must ofcourse have a job and not such a bad credit rating. But if Leasing is not the way for you check out municipal or low-yield bonds.

open up a CD at a bank and set it for a few years and you can earn interest and you cant take the money out until the time is up or you can have a shorter length and get less interest

1st do you work? If so open a savings account and set an amount on how much you will put in it every payday and stick to it no matter what. You will soon have your car.

put it in the bank or a piggy bank

This is something I personally do. I set aside 20 bucks a week from my paycheck into my "vacation" fund. It will take some time, but in a year I will have saved up over a thousand bucks!

While CDs might be a good idea, it takes time to earn a reasonable amount of interest. (This was suggested by another person)
