athemas32 | I just looked at my pay stub. my company has given me 4 hours overtime of which i did not work. what happens? |
basically..i asked my manager and he said he had to call them to see how they were going to fix it. now my thing is..YOU the manager so why didn't u catch "said" problem? in the beginning.. i know dayum well you don't think you gone take this lil overtime pay out my next check when..i know i will work the full 40 hours. this error was on their end not mine. i knew i had missed punches..so i told him..not to mention gave him the paperwork for him to correct the issue. he didn't..but advised me to sign it anyway... i have contacted HR but i was just wonderin if anybody has ever experienced this..and what was teh recourse? |

Speak to the payroll office and make them aware of the overpayment.
Also, put the overpayment amount away until your next paycheck, so you can add it to the short check you'll get next time.
It all balances out.

They will take back the extra money, and have every right to do so. |

You do need to call them and tell them of their mistake, because they will eventually catch it, and you'll have to give the money that you didn't work for back. So you better save that money that you didn't work for and let them know about it. They will expect it back, and it's best if you go ahead and tell them now and give the money back rather than waiting for them to catch it themselves.
It's happened to a friend of mine before. |

Very simple, they will take it back out of your check next pay period. It was a mistake but the money doesn't belong to you, it belongs to them so they will take it back. |

They can legally take the money back from your next check. That money is not yours, and was given to you by mistake. I would set it aside, and hold onto it until you do get your next check, because that will be short that amount.
If you didn't tell your manager, and they figured it out, you could have been fired and possibly charged with theft from the company. You did the right thing, and now it has to be fixed.
You say the error was on their end, not yours, but I disagree. Your exact words "I knew I had missed punches" That can grounds for being written up alone. Even if you turned in the paperwork, not punching in and out is rarely acceptable practice. Also keep in mind you are creating much more work for your manager.
If you actually punch in and out from now on, like you are supposed to, you won't have this issue. But expect to have to give the money back. They may not make you, but they have every right to. |

You missed punches, therefore it's your fault, not the manager's. It's HR's job to catch it and/or fix it, not his. Don't worry, they will take it back from a future paycheck. You work 40 hours and will get paid for it minus 4 hours overtime, or 6 hours regular. Yes, they can do this because they overpaid you and they can take it back. |

If you did not work those 4 hours and got paid for it, it will be taken out of your next check. They overpaid you! No way around it, you can't take pay that you didn't earn. As long as you got paid for your actual hours you worked, you really don't have a gripe. I'm not sure what it is your trying to say happened. It doesn't matter who was suppose to catch it, it's still an overpay, and you don't get to keep the money just because they missed it. So, unless you're missing actual hours you worked, you don't have any recourse. Good Luck!!! |

you need to contact them. they will dock your pay next week but it's better to be honest because if they audit their payroll they will see the error and they are within their legal rights to dock you the pay when the error is realized. it's way better to be upfront and deal with it now. |
