Bollocks to that,
Put your feet up and enjoy the view.

Contact employment agencies where you live or reputable ones online. They can help you determine what you're best suited for and where you would like to relocate. You may even qualify for some training. I wish you the best. Job loss is traumatic |

I think a good place for you to start your search is www.jobcentral.com. The website is administered by all 50 states' employment agencies. There are a lot of jobs there. Good luck! |

There are many search engines designed around jobs. Besides checking the yahoo site, you can also check monster.com, carer builders.com, or just google 'jobs' and you should find quite a few places to look and post. Best of luck! |

If your job was one you really enjoyed and were good at( I imagine you were you were there for 40yrs) you'll find another one with no problem. You can try monster.com or any of those web sites that have job listings all over the country. Maybe now is the time to figure out if you want to follow your dream job path-you'd never know unless you try. Good Luck and Blessings |

One book that changed my life was, "What Color is Your Parachute", by Bolles. It is the definitive career book. Try it and see where it takes you. |

A lot of employers are now posting on www.craigslist.com because its a free classifieds. In our area that's where we go to look.
I would take a temporary job for now. And I don't mean temp agencies...they suck.
Then you will have the option to look for work you enjoy.
Many small businesses love people who had long time employment. They may not pay as much a big businesses or have the bennies, but they love loyalty and generally have a family feel to work. |

Wow 40 years that's really good. You can probably get a job anywhere as long as you have the education for it because that amount of time looks really good on an application. Look online for jobs in your area like onlinejobsearch.com and see what you like |

I'm sorry to hear that! The good news is that since you have 40 years experience, that should account for a lot. It might be an idea to jot down a list of all the responsibilities you had in that job. Once you review those then you can see what other jobs might apply to a new one. For instance, if someone worked in a pet store for 5 years as a stock clerk and cashier, then they might be able to get a job in a vet's office as a receptionist because they will have had experience handling money and would know various brands and issues relating to animals, etc. Good luck, hope this helps. |

Not sure why it has to be a new area. You might want to consider registering with a temp employment agency--most of them are quite happy if you will end up a permanent employee where they've placed you (they get a fee for that). The advantage to you of considering that route is that you don't know what you want to do and they will be able to look at your knowledge, skills, and experience and your local market and what wage you'd work for and be able to find some kind of match--saves a lot of time for you. Then if you go and enjoy the job, you're ahead of the game. If it turns out you don't like it, then you're not fired nor are you quitting--you did your temp turn, made a few bucks, learned something important.
Also many temp agencies will teach you some basic skills or at least tell you what is marketable. You could then obtain the skills that are more marketable and be able to get a decent job.
Also if you have friends you can network with, social organizations, church, etc. you can put the word out. The problem I have with that is if you tell people "I need a job, but I don't know what kind," that makes it extra hard to think of where to go with you or who to refer you to. I think a temp agency could jumpstart your search.
No matter what you do, good luck! |
