I just started a new job that i HATE. should i stay or quit?
i've been at a job for about a month now that i totally hate. it only pays $450/week as a base and they gave me no accounts to sell to get a commission to make more than $450. i've been busting my rear for a month now trying to get a sale ( it's radio advertising sales ) and haven't had a sale yet.

it's an expensive product to sell. the minimum program is going to be like $2,000.00 and i have to sell AT least $70,000 per month to make say $800/week.

anyway, since i'm making like no money i simply can't afford to work there. should i quit and focus my efforts on getting another job or should i continue with the job and try to sneak some interviews during the day?
Additional Details
this is an outside sales job. i don't want people to think this is phone soliciting. i try to get businesses to advertise on the radio.

DO NOT QUIT. I understand the temptation, believe me, I do. But if you quit you will be up a creek. Even if it is only a small amount of money it is better than nothing. You must get days off that you can use to interview and you can do wonders on your lunch break if you're dedicated. However, if you have someone who can lean on until you find a job (even though that may be months depending on your luck) you might want to quit. However, even if this person really loves you they might get frustrated that they pay for everything after a while. It is just so much safer to stick with this job. Who knows? It might even get better. Employers would always rather hire someone away from another job than hire someone who is unemployed. It makes them feel good about their company.

this sounds like what i call a "gopher position". meaning they pay you a very low wage that you can't live on and give you no accounts and that forces you to go out and "dig" up new accounts and leads. then, they have a comission structure where you need to sell an impossible amount to really make any money. so, they know you are going to quit and chances are one or two of the leads you turned up is going to call in and they'll just assign it to someone.

most places that do this have a really high turnover rate. are there a lot of empty desks? ask how long people have been there and if they all say like "6 months" or "a few months" that is not a good sign. it means people aren't staying long-term at that job.

if you can go a month or two without a job and still pay your bills, i would go ahead and politely resign and concentrate on getting another job. if you're getting up every day to go to a job that doesn't pay your bills, then why bother?

Doctor J
This job sounds like a 'mis-match' for you. Keep the job and its income while you look for something you will enjoy doing (and therefore, be good at doing!).

Best wishes and good luck.

Dear Friend,

I think better your try to survive few year, Pls feel It is your good experience life. Fyi, so many person waiting jobs in our enviroment. Have a nice day.

bitoy
sometimes we are not just right for a job or a job is just not right for us. a couple of months should be enough to determine this. don't quit yet, but keep your radar up for a better opportunity.
but if you really feel you are not improving your chances of a sale (no skills seminars? no more suggestions from your boss?) then maybe start looking.

note: when you apply, the interviewer will be sure to ask you how you did in that company. would be nice if you could honestly say you handled a successful sale or two, wouldn't it

Sounds like your bothering people who don't want to be bothered. Phone solicitor. I'd quit.

Burjor T
If you hate the job, why did you accept the assignment in the first place. Anyway, try to find out good paying job for yourself and quit the present job.

Lee C
Well, try harder and see what happens. If it doesn't work out try finding a new job.

Joelanda P
At this point, what do you have to lose, but the roof over your head and your means of transportation which you'll definitely need to look for another job. If I were you I would definitely be iso another job. Happy Hunting and Good Luck :)

Look for something else on your free time. It doesn't sound worth it to stay working for that company but it helps as income while your looking for something else. Try a Temp agency. Sometimes they have some good stuff, and can get you something right away. Try a few of them.

JK
If I were you I would just get out and go find a job you would be happy with! If you give it all your time and attention you will be in a better job a lot faster than you would trying to sneak in an interview here and there.
Good Luck :-)

If you know you can't pay your car payment and mortgage on $2000 a week then why are you posting this question asking for help. You already have your mind made up!
