Congratulations on your win!
Statistics show that most people who have considerable wins usually have very little to show for it after a relatively short period of time UNLESS they invest most of the winnings after a small celebration.
I personally have seen this where an old school friend won a lot of money. He had a great time for a while partying with all of his new-found friends [parasites] but these vanished as soon as his money vanished.
My advice is not to tell too many people of your good fortune as this could cause you heartache and you may get heaps of begging letters from people who may not really deserve your help.
In a nutshell:- Keep quiet about your good fortune and invest the money wisely.

Put 90% of it in savings so you don't end up being one of the 80% of lottery winners applying for bankruptcy in the next 5 years. Also read the 5 lessons a millionaire taught me about money and life, very short book and inspiring! |

It depends on how much you have won. If it is a very large sum then you need a lawyer to protect your assets... Then take yourself a 6 month vacation in Europe...relax enjoy life. Then come home to live a normal life. |

Spend 10%, put 10% in a 3 month CD to spend when it matures. Put 80% in a dividend yeilding security (Alrtia or General Growth properties is great!) and spend the dividends you recieve. |

Make sure you invest invest invest. So many people end up worse off after winning the lotto because they do not know how to use money properly. Buy a few things that will be a quick fix and exciting. Don't tell everyone cause you will have a lot of people all of a sudden being your friend. Good luck and educate yourself |

Have you won a lot? MSN has an excellent article on all the things you need to take care of when you win the lottery.
-For starters, keep the ticket safe. If you've won a lot, then you'll likely quit your job -- but until the money's in the bank, it's best to just take a leave (without saying why) and start sorting out your finances.
-Find a good lawyer, financial advisor, and accountant -- that should be 3 different people! Don't trust one person to handle all the details.
-Decide on a lump sum or payments; your advisor may help you decide what will be best in your situation.
-Set up a special bank account -- you can't deposit millions into your checking, and the money will be wired to you, so you'll need an account ready.
-Change your phone number! You're going to have "friends" coming out of the woodwork once word of your winning gets out.
