I left on bad terms, will I still get my W2?
I quit my job without notice last year and now I haven't received my W2! It is Feb. 13th, and I thought I should have it by now. Should I still get it even though I left suddenly on bad terms? How should I approach this? Write an email to Accounts Payable- the man who hates me?? I have moved in the past couple months...would a new address be a factor to as why I haven't received it yet? - i thought it would have been forwarded ....

Your company should have sent your W-2 by January 31. However, if it is being forwarded, that could take weeks. If you want it sooner, you should call the company. Whether or not you left on bad terms, they are legally required to send you a W-2.

One other option: if you worked for a large company, get TurboTax. Some companies make your W-2 info. available on the internet (only to you), and TurboTax can pull that information into your tax return.

A new address would definitely be a factor. By law they MUST mail you your W-2 by January 31st. If it was sent on that date it is probably still in the mail system being forwarded on to you. Or it could have been sent back to them. I'd give it another week and then if you still don't receive it, contact the employer and let them know you didn't get it yet.

By law, the company you left MUST provide you with your W-2 and issue them no later than Jan 31st. Call the company and explain to whoever answers that you haven't received yours and give them your new address. It make have taken an extra week or so to get to you due to a change of address-
but I would think you should have gotten by now.

They have to send you the W-2, regardless of personal feelings. Call them and ask them where they sent it. The address change might be the holdup, check with your postal service to see hold long the change of address forwarding lasts.

By law they have to mail it to you.

Why contact the Payables department, you should contact HR.

If you moved only 2 months ago and submitted forwarding information you should have had the document.

Contact the HR department, your anxiety about your departure is not something they care about.

They are required by law to send it to you. It should be forwarded, but if it is postmarked the 31th (the last date, by law) it mail still be "in transit". The AP guy wouldn't be the person to contact, unless he also does payroll. Is their a HR dept? They'd be the one's to contact, if not, how about the controller or accounting mgr. You may overstate his feelings for you- it's been a year, and no one, not even you, is irreplaceable.

Moving would probably be the factor as to why you haven't received it yet. As many others have said, they HAVE - by law- to mail it out, not ensure that you receive it. However, if you did inform your employer of your latest address, they should have sent it to that location. If they didn't you are well within your rights to have them penalized. If you didn't let them know about your latest address, make sure that you have mail forwarding set up at a post office. If you do, give it another week before freaking out.

Now, if you've moved without mail forwarding, there is a possibility that it's been sent back to them or sitting in a mail box somewhere. If you don't want to talk to the Accounts Payable guy, then get in touch with the Payroll Administrator - the company who prints out the paycheck for you. They may not be part of the same company. They may be able to get you a copy of your W2 to you. This may require some begging on your part, maybe in person, but they may be able to get you a copy. That's how someone I know got her W2 after quitting in a huff.

Hope it all works out for you

They have to send it. Check with your previous post office to see what if they would forward it and if there might be a delay.

Yes, you should have it by now. If you don't contact your ex employer, then the IRS if they don't supply it.

Of course moving would be a factor! It is your responsibility to notify employers of address changes.

They are required by law to send it. If they don't the government fines them. Check back with the company and make sure they have your new address. Some companies had an employee website were you can download your W2.
