Call your credit card company and be honest.

ty t
you just learned a lesson don't let your friend borrow your credit card.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do. At some point everybody makes a financial mistake of this caliber. You're just gonna have to suck it up and pay for it. The credit company isn't gonna take word of mouth.
Now, you could try to say that you didn't sign for the items that she received therefor, you're not paying for something you didn't buy and that isn't in your possession.
Is this one item or many?
Do you have credit protection measures on your account?
Did you in fact sign on the receipts of purchase?...or did she actually steal your card and sign your name?
If you didn't sign than you have a better chance of getting your money back...it'd be hard but if you did sign for that stuff or it was purchased on the internet than that's going to be almost impossible to recover.

The thing is i dont think that she is reaslly your friend if they did tyhat to you. Just ask them when they can pay it off and if she doesnt give you the money i would call it quits for that relationship!

Your CC company will do no such thing as to reduce any charges.

You are completely liable for the debt.

If you had a clear verbal or written agreement on the terms of lending to your friend you could pursue a civil law suit to try and recover the loan.

Of course your friendship will be toast at that point.

NEVER LEND money to friends. Only give them what you can afford to lose.

Because you didn't report the card stolen, the companies will assume that you ran the bills up yourself, and that you are ultimately responsible.

Letting someone else use your card is an extremely stupid thing to do, but I think you've genuinely learned your lesson and are a much smarter person for it.

Contact your lender, and ask for a statement. Then go to the businesses where she used your card, and ask them if they can provide the credit signature slips that she must have signed when making purchases with the card. Ask for copies of these slips. If there are obvious discrepancies between your signature on the card, and the signature given, then you might be able to argue that your card was stolen. However, giving away the card probably makes this impossible.

Unless you have reported the card stolen, there isn't much you can do, because they will assume you ran up the debt. I'm sorry.

Write her off as a human being. She is obviously complete scum and will eventually get what is coming to her.

I suggest you go to her house with some friends who know about it, take some of her stuff, and take her and the stuff down to the pawn brokers and get some money to make the first payment. That's what I did for a friend who was in a similar situation, but in that case my friend had gone as guarantor for another friend and they were going to repossess her car.

Take some friends with you. At least 4, hopefully male friends. Go early in the morning and get her out of bed, and explain that you've come to get her stuff to pay for the debt she owes you. Be very firm. She'll probably kick up a big fuss, but let her know that your friends will harm her if she does. Let her know that unless she complies, you will call the police, and tell her that the card was reported 'stolen', and that she will be prosecuted for credit card fraud. Bluff her. She will probably cave. Do it while she's getting ready to go to work, so she'll have to be late to work while she's down at the pawn shop. That will really throw her offguard, because there's no way she'd expect it first thing in the morning.

Best wishes. I know you've learned from this and you'll be a much better person for it, if not a little wounded by the experience.

your CC company MAY reduce the charges if you explained what happened. Also if you can document that your friend made these charges WITHOUT your consent, CC fraud is a felony. Seek your local D.A.

If you have credit card statements and witnesses, take her to court.

You can take her to small claims court, but i don't know that you would win since it would be your word against hers. You could tape her talking about the debt with you and admitting it was hers, then you might have a chance to win a judgment against her. Of course you will have to check state laws about taping someone without their knowledge.

If all else fails, you are screwed and will have to pay the bill yourself and never let another person use your card.

Notify your credit card company, and you may need to sue her in small claims court.

Kisses
Sue her. You really won't have the receipts since you're not the one who made the purchases. Anyway, sue her ASAP. If you keep on delaying this, there will come a time when you can't sue her anymore because the event happened so long ago. So SUE HER.

Stubs_McKenzie
You can take her to court, but only if you have a signed agreement for payback from that friend.

Two words, civil suit.

First request from your credit card company copies of everything she charged. This IS your proof. Be honest with them and let them know you lent the card out. You will still be responsible for at least making the minimum payment on the account until you recoup your losses. You need to preserve your credit history!!! So making payments even minimum are of the utmost importance.

You can go to your local court house and request the paperwork for filing a civil suit on your own behalf - without an attorney. Filing usually costs around $200 but depends from state to state. Again, you will need documentation, hence copies from the credit card company, when you file.

After all that, a court date gets assigned, she gets served, and then you will go to court. You can also request in your case for reimbursement for filing costs and fees in addition to the $2K she spent.

Trust me, it's worth the money to file when you consider the damage that can be done to your credit history. And again to reiterate, the credit card company won't much care if you lent the card out, but will care that you don't make payments, particularly if you choose to file a civil suit. So make those payments in the meantime, you will be reimbursed in court and your case looks better when you do!
