My family motto is "If you loan money, loan it with the expectation that you will never get it back".
To loan $500 is a lot of money and for someone to borrow that kind of money to buy an X-box instead of getting off his lazy behind and getting a job is ridiculous. I can understand loaning $500 for a medical procedure or to get a vehicle fixed but not for an X-box.
Wake up and quit loaning money to people. When someone asks to borrow money from me...I tell them "You earn half and I will match it"....by that time they aren't interested in the loan anymore (i.e. they want the easy way) and my pockets are not empty and collecting cob webs. |

Take him to small claims court.
Also, you've learned a valuable lesson for life - NEVER give anyone the merchandise until they've paid it off! And don't loan money to anyone you want to see again. :)

This is kind of an expensive way for you to learn this lesson. But you should never loan people money. You can give it to them, if you never expect to get it back. But loans, especially between friends, can ruin good friendships.
If you really need the money, I would suggest you keep asking him about it. But if you actually get it all back, you'll be extremely lucky. |

The tone of your question doesn't sound like this guy is a friend at all. I second the opinion of a small claims court to try settling it, but don't ever loan money to a friend again; it tarnishes relationships with friends and family. |
