Call whoever is the guarantor on your loan (probably Dept. of Ed) and ask for an economic hardship deference. They will give it to you, usually for about 6 months and then you have to call them and get another one if need be. I dont know about the rent though :( Sorry! |

Well for your student loans you can defer them for longer if needed just call them and for your rent... can you file for unemployment? if so maybe that will cover your rent for now. |

Contact your creditors and let them know of your hard time. If and ONLY if you contact them can the offer any assistance. |

You can contact the student loan and get a hardship deferment. That will defer your payment for 6 months until you're able to get a new job. Don't know what to do about your rent though. |

get out of nyc or ny or surrounding areas asap. The price of living there is astronomical and with no job you don't stand a chance. Find a job, that pays well and bounce back. |

Well, for starters, you CAN get your loans differed due to financial hardship. So call and explain. You may need proof of your employer firing you or laying you off. |

If you have a drivers license, a car and insurance you should go deliver pizza, that job is easy to get, fast to get and will get you money fast. Tips, gas money and free pizza to boot. sounds lame but gotta do what you gotta do. I would, if you are alone, find a cheaper place if possible. |

Homelessness is not so bad if you consider it as "urban camping" |

It depends if you r job was lost because you quit? Fired? or Laid Off? The last two will pay you unemployment which will buy you time to get a new job. If you quit chances are high that you will not be able to afford living expenses while you are looking for a new job, so move. |

I've been there.... get a book called "the total money makeover" by Dave Ramsey - it will help.
