I need gas money and have some jewelry to pawn. How do I do that--what do I say? What should I expect?
I have opals/diamonds/emralds/pearls. All are set in different rings and the pearls are strung. What do I say to the pawn brokers? I have never done this before.

Oh, God, that just sucks that you have to go to a pawn shop to buy gas. They will not give you very much on the jewelry. Can you do some sort of odd jobs instead to earn cash? check out www.craigslist.org for your locale and check the "etc" job listings. They often have one time gigs like maybe working a day helping to cater a wedding or a weekend helping someone move and you might be better off getting cash from that. Good luck!

Do not expect to get very much money.. I did that in the past and completly regret it.. didnt even get back 10% as compared to purchase prive.. but every pawn broker is different and every city is different.

If you only need gas money, take only one item of jewelry to your local pawn broker. They will loan you money on the item (pennies on the dollar). You will have approximately 90 days to pay them back with interest (always ask how much the interest is) or after the specified holding time they will place your jewelry for sale in their shop.

never never pawn anything that you can't live without because the chance that you won't get it back out of the pawn shop is great!!!so if you want to sell the item to the pawn shop they will give you more money to buy it than to make a loan from them with hopes of one day paying off the loan to get your jewelry back..besides...for gas!!!!it will be crazy because tomorrow you'll need to pawn something else for more gas !!!it never ends..just borrow 20 from your parents or a friend..

unless you find a shop i a real crappy neighborhood you should expect a hassle.
where did you get them etc?maybe even "hello officer"

I would go to a check cashing place before I would pawn anything. The rings, if they are gold...they will only give you what the gold is worth by weight, and pearls, they could care less about. Diamonds, gems, etc...are nothing to them, only the gold weight matters, which means you could have a ring you paid $1000 for, but when they weigh it, they may give you $200, if you are lucky. Seriously, I would not pawn my jewelry, maybe a DVD player or VCR, or GO to a check cashing place.

well, first of all, so you don't have to pawn what sounds like beautiful jewelry, i would work on getting rid of some things you absolutely don't need, such as internet, do you shop a lot, out to eat a lot, spend money on frivolous things? if yes to any of these, stop doing those and you would have lots of money, you would be surprised. as far as what to say at a pawn shop, make sure you know the value of the jewelry before you go, they may try to rip you off. just simply say to them, i have this jewelry, what can i get for it?

erikamichellepayne
Just walk in and give them to the pawnbrokers and they will tell you how much it's worth.

You go to a pawn shop, and tell them you want to pawn your jewelry. They won't give you near what it's worth. They will ask for photo I.D. (i.e driver's license) and probably take a thumb print to make sure the jewlery's not stolen. Hang on to the pawn ticket. You'll have, usually, 30 days to redeem your item (the amount you borrowed, plus intrest). If you don't have the whole amount, you can usually just pay the interest, and that will give you another 30 days. In theory, you could just pay the interest for the rest of your life if you wanted too and not loose your item. If you don't pay it off by the due date, the pawn shop gets it. Of course, even then, you might be able to buy it back once it goes on sale, provided no one else buys it first.
There are places that will give payday loans if you don't want to pawn your jewelry, but the intrerst rate is high.

If you're in need of assitance, this website: http://usminc.org/links.html
has many useful phone numbers and links for getting out of debt and much more.

Good luck and God Bless.

Perhaps you should sell the jewelry on ebay instead of pawning it. Might bring in much more.

After you've sold the jewelry, where will the next gas money come from?

You need multiple sources of income so this won't happen again. You could be wondering which sports car to go out and buy (with cash, not on a loan!) instead of worrying about gas for it. There is no reason for you to be this hard up.

Start by joining an affiliate program on the internet. You won't make a ton of money right away. It will take time, but soon you will be getting a small paycheck, and soon after than, you will see it begin to grow. Before you know it, it will be paying your bills, and you will be buying jewelry instead of selling it.

Just be careful, though, there are a lot of programs on the internet that just want to take your money, and a lot of others that are a waste of time. Try the ones below. They are all legit, and I personally get a paycheck each month from most of them.

Here's to your success!

Sell em to a pawn shoppe.

Pawn brokers usually offer about 10% of the value they estimate, so ask as many of them as you can. Just say, I have some jewls here, how much are you offering? If they suspect the goods are not legitimate they will offer you 5%, or may inform the police.

But I advise you not to go to them unless you are literally staving. Have you tried getting a better paid job, or a second lob at weekends etc, or welfare, or some suitable charity?

We were so bad off that we needed money and it got to the point where we were going to sell my wedding set. Now my center stone is a Sapphire and it is of the highest quality and it is set with four diamonds in white gold.
When we went to the pawn shop to sell the set all they would give me is 80 to 100 dollars and we spent 8,000 on the set.
Tell you something about the retail value of jewelry.
Pawn shop said the only thing that was of value to them was the gold and there really was not allot of it.
I am kinda glad that we could not sell it because it is my wedding set but we really could have used the money.

good luck.

Be very careful!!!!!! These people are usually legitimate theives...they'll rob you blind, you should take someone who knows what's going on with you when you do this....otherwise you'll lose your goods, and not get the money you deserve. When you pawn an item, it's basically a loan for 30 -90 days, as long as you continue to pay the interest on the loan they cannot sell it, but if you fail to pay on it -- you lose it!!!! You should find a reputable pawn broker first, don't just take it anywhere....GOOD LUCK!!!!

You really don't need to say anything. When you go to the pawn shop just present the items you want pawned. Then they'll give you price of how much they'll give you. You can either take that amount, try to negoitiate further or leave and go to another pawn shop until you find a better price for your items.

I would do some research first, by either shopping in pawn shops and seeing what items like yours are selling for or by checking online. There's the website http://www.pawnshops.net/ where you can shop through real pawn shops.

There's also the choice of selling on ebay.com or other online auction sites. Sometimes this may take awhile though. But ebay is nice if you have a minimum amount to sell it for because it lets you set a minimum bid for items. It's also a good place to research what people are willing to pay for items like yours.

so basically research or ebay.
