First of all, save all your change, coins, and pennies and snag all the ones your friends are about to toss on the ground. They add up!

Also, buy things in bulk when you can and simple things like toiletries, gifts, paper, kitchen things, towels, and all replaceable things like that at a cheap place like a dollar store, or if you have a place like Family Dollar. Those things are just as good quality there as anywhere else and you can save hundreds of dollars over short amount of time...

Also, if you need a quick solution, put money away or have trusted people hold onto it, figuring otu a budget ahead of time and rounding UP, that way you dont even have the money in your hand to over-spend it. Do this with the next thing of money you get and it should be somewhat of a quick fix...

Do you use coupons? Use the regularly and also print out coupons. Its not as much work as it seems and if you need to save a few bucks, (which really add up!), its worth the extra 30 seconds. These are just a few ideas, I can come up with several more if you need any

live below your means. To me, saving money is like a diet. Go off the diet, you put the weight back on. Go back to your old spending habits, and your money problems will come right back. It's the little stuff you buy that really hurts the bank account. Do you really need that 20 oz. soda every time you go to the gas station? How much money do you spend on lunch each week? How much do you go out to dinner? Spending money on food is easy to do because we need to eat, but try to figure out ways to save on groceries, dinners, etc. Try to plan your trips out, walk more, gas prices are only going up. Only keep ONE credit card. How many does a person need? I mean, more credit cards=more fees, more interest rates, more bills, more debt. Collect bottles and cans. Sell your stuff on ebay and amazon. As soon as you get paid, split up your paychecks by half or thirds. First, make sure the bills are paid, then figure out what you need for gas and food, save the rest, as much as you can. Invest, invest invest. Get movies at the library, don't pay rental and late fees. Clip coupons. Sounds like alot, but once you get yourself into a routine, it's not that much of an effort at all

develop a budget and learn to control your spending.

an exercise to try is this. for exactly one month, keep track of every single penny you spend, and categorize it (regular bills such as rent, utilitiies, or whatever, and other things such as entertainment, snacks, etc.). define your own categories for your situation. this will help you understand your habits better and give you an idea of where you can cut spending.

I have heard from various financial advisors that the first thing you should do when you get paid is to pay yourself....establish an amount that you can take from each pay after you have paid your necessary bills and put it away..in other words..."DONT TOUCH it no matter what" Good luck to you.

invest in something that automatically deducts each month from your account so that you don't have it to spend. record everything you spend, using credit cards for everything is FINE if you can pay them off. that is what i do, and i record transactions in a check register. the reason i do this is because of the cash back bonus with my card. if you can be responsible it's a great way to put away a couple hundred for fun money each year by getting that back. grocery shop, limit eating out to once a week and meal plan the rest. buy good quality items on sale, don't go shopping "for fun" but when you need it, try to get the things you need on freecycle or goodwill, garage sales, etc. think creatively for entertainment. or, before you make any changes, record last months expenditures onto a pie chart and see what really is eating up your budget, knowing where the money goes is cruical to making positive saving changes.

Savings account that you cant touch for a period of time.

A W
Buy supermarket own brand good value foods which have the same ingredients as the more expensive ones. Make up your own sandwiches and make coffee, etc at work to save buying it at expensive cafes. Sort out direct debits for your utility bills etc and put aside what you need for essentials each month. Close your eyes when you walk past the shops! Walk instead of taking the bus. Put the extra money in an account which you can't access by debit card. You know the old saying 'Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves.' Stop using the credit cards. I'm sure you'll think of many other little economies. Good Luck. Hope you eventually end up as a millionaire!

In our home money is always tight (2 kids) We budget for everything. We have no credit cards, we only use cash.
Plan weekly menus, with a budget. Cook at home or pack your own lunch as much as possible. Try to cut back on gas. If there are several stops you can make without going out of your day, do that. (ie, bank, grocery store, dry cleaners instead of each one separate).
The biggest thing is probably to keep track of your spending. You'll be amazed at how much you are spending on things like coffee and eating out. Look for free things to do for entertainment. Local coffee shops for music & art. Go for walks - I bet you'll find really neat places you never knew existed in your neighborhood.
Good luck!

be very economical check that you have enough bank funds to cover your needs or else you will land yourself into the red debt in other words, dont go beyond your spending limit eg if you have to spent say £1,000 look around and see if there is a subitute for the item(s) and its cheaper. like if you know a well known perfume costs £30 you shop around and see if there is something simalar and has the same sweet smell buy that after all dear things are not always what they claim to be, i go to the 1 pound shop at reading berkshire they have a nice good selection of items some look very expensive but they arent has all the products in that shop is only £1.00 be wise dont let your head or the shop assistant make your mind up its you that has to do this you are in control of your money.

Quizard
discipline, put by money you know you're going to use and don't touch it. Necessities first, everything else can wait until your back on your feet. A savings account is a good way of putting money away for special things or occasions

A very important tip is don't buy nothing you don't need.

I compiled a bunch of tips and strategies on a blog I started a while back, but haven't updated lately. It's all still pretty valid. I've linked below.

Limit credit card use. Debit cards are better because if you don't have the money you can't buy it. Try not to get sucked into all these crazy advertisements. Ask yourself if something is really necessary for you to have.

Hope it helps.

Decide how much you are able to save, put it aside then you can spend the rest but try not to spend the money you put aside.

well for starters, you have to cut out going out with your mates for booze ups,if a smoker, cut it out, already your saving big money, maybe one night out a month would be more appropriate, no more designer clothes, back to Matalan,or primark,by now, you would have got the picture.

JC
put away half your money, and dont touch it until you forget about it. then, when you are doing somthing, you might come across the money you tucked away. worked for me.

or...
get a piggy bank that you cant open xcept when you break it. and everyday, add $5, or so on.
