It depends on what sort of account you paid your cheque into.Nationwide Building Society provides a Current Account called Flex Account. The Flex Account has two forms.
1.Flex Account with a Debit Card and a Cheque Book (Normally a blue card)
2.Flex Account with a Cash Card and no cheque book (Red Card)
Sometimes you may get a cheque book with the second type too.

If you paid the cheque into a Flex Account with a cheque book,it takes three working days for a cheque to clear. But if you paid into ANY OTHER account(savings or flex without a cheque book) it takes five working days to clear

You can use special clearance service Nationwide offers to expedite cheque clearing but then its not a guranteed service because you have to rely on Royal Mail s service too as the cheque gets posted to the relevant bank on 1st class mail and it costs you £12 wether or not the cheque gets cleared on time.Hope the info helps

about 3-4 days, they like to get as much interest as possible.

if its a flex account without a cheque book its 5 days, with a cheque book im not too sure. but if you go noto their web site www.nationwide.co.uk they have this handy little chart that tells you when funds become available for every paying in day.

Used to be 3-4 days but there is a process now in place called check 21. I'm not well versed in the details but my understanding is that banks are now legally allowed to clear checks electronically rather than having to physically send checks through the federal reserve system. This is greatly reducing the float time and I would guess that most checks are clearing the same or the next day after the payee banks receives it. Of course the payee can hold off on depositing the check for an indefinite amount of time but I don't think people should count on any float time anymore.

some banks cheques clear straight away for interest purposes...........TSB is one of them..normally a cheque takes upto five working days to clear..........down to the banks discretion if you get money on the cheque earlier

angie
It is usually 3 - 4 working days.

Some banks will not allow you to draw on the cheque until the 5th working day.

Some building societies make you wait 7 - 10 working days.

Overseas cheques can tale up to 28 days.

If cheque is drawn at same bank and branch as your account is held and paid in at the branch you may be able to draw on it after 1 working day.

To many factors to take into consideration so the best thing for you to do is contact your bank and ask them wht their policy is.

depends who the issuing bank is as well as the one it goes into. takes up to 7 days. but usually about 3 or 4. sometimes the money will appear in you account before it has cleard, but u cant spend it.

Normally three working days - but check in the term and conditions of your account or ask the bank.

By law the banks have to speed up this process but I'm not sure by when. Again ask your bank - and if your not satisfied with their services seek a better bank.

James
id guess 3 days

DAVID B
normally 3 to 5 working days

Drew P
2 to 3 days.

I've had a check clear in less than 4 hours after I handed it to the clerk. It's getting faster now and you can no longer rely on the 3-5 days grace anymore.

Before you write that check you make sure you have the money in the account to cover it.
