jaymcewan | I need to learn how to save money? |
I know it's a stupid thing to have to ask people but my husband switched jobs because of my medical problems and took a pay cut of almost 15k a year. I'm buying generic foods already but my knowledge of making foods from scratch is, well, a bit pants to be honest. Any ideas how I can save a few extra quid here and there?
Thank you x |

sorry to hear about that dear,
its not very difficult to save money. all you need is a plan and lots and lots of willpower.
try to cut down all restaurant and meals out.
cut down all fizzy drinks and lemonades. water is best for you anyway.
dont spend your freetime in shops, but go for walks and spend time reading books from library.
get some cookery books from your library - dont buy recipe books.
you cant go and buy all the pulses and stuff 1 day and expect yourself to cook from scrath the next day, take it slow.
buy frozen veg - or even better buy your vegetables from street markets and stalls rather than supermarkets - they are cheaper and the price goes down as the day goes by as they dont have refridgeration and want to give it away for wahtever money they can get.
french beans, cauliflower, brocolli can all be choped up and freeze it for using in the coming week(s)
only potatoes and onions can be bought and they are quite cheap anyway.
remember 1 thing and keep telling yourself this
*money doesnt make the world go around - love does*
and i am sure you and your hubby have plenty of that !
:) good luck |

You need two separate bank accounts, one for paying bills and mortgage etc and the other, a "ready money fund" into which you have NO overdraft, so once it's gone, it's gone.
When you are paid each month, enough money will go into the "Bills Account" to pay all of the out goings, the rest goes into the "ready money account". From this account a small amount goes into a Savings Account, that is NEVER touched.
This way, All the bills will be paid, you will have some to spend AND you will be saving a bit as well. |

you don't learn how to save money, you put it in the bank and LEAVE IT ALONE, to fester. |

Make a strict budget and stick to it. Set aside a little money for savings every month and then don't touch it. Cut back on how often you eat out or stop for "just a little snack".
Start keeping track of every penny you spend; after a few weeks, you'll come to realize how much the average person spends without thinking about it, and you'll have a better idea of where you can cut back. |

dont spend to much and when you get some money say like put half in your bank account and then spend the other half and then if you keep doing that then the money will just keep building up in your bank account because you are not spending any of it! xxxx hope i helped! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx... good luck!xx |

Try and find a part time job yourself if possible, and also you could set up your own small home business |

only cook the amount of food you need, or if you have excess then always freeze it down to use later, you will be amazed how much food you throw away weekly |

Unless you have a simple cookbook you'll just have to learn as you cook. Shop in charity shops to save some money and make sure you save regularly |

Defo look for bogofs..buy one get one free deals in the supermarkets....never buy anything that is for the proper price...eg. just buy the stuff is on sale like 'roll back' at asda...
buy frozen veg...its just as good as fresh now and will be a lot cheaper and you won't waste as much....
plan what you are going to eat in the week, planning will help you save money too
good luck! |
