I owe a bank some money am I able to get a savings account anywhere?
I am concerned because I still owe money to my previous bank and I am unable to pay the debt off right away, however, I need some sort of bank account. Please let me know if I am able to get a savings account, what comes with it .. atm card etc.

Whenever you open any kind of bank account whoever opens it is supposed to run your social and name through "ChexSystems" to verify that you have no other fraudelent debts to any other banks. However, some CSR (customer service reps) don't always do it. And that is the only way you'd be able to open one, if you got lucky.
Otherwise, it will show up and they will not let you open one until you have paid off any debt. The process of paying it back is also lenghty unless you get a good CSR working with you. Even after you pay ChexSystems it takes a few weeks for it to clear up.
Good luck.

No if it is red flag the best advice I can give you is get a reloadable visa card and save your money that way. You can always get your checks cashed and grocery stores and Wal-mart and banks that your check is astablished at!
Take care!

Jessi
no you can not...until you pay the other bank the money you owe them, you have been "black flagged" which puts your name on a list stating you have an outstanding debt to a bank
once you pay the money, your name will be removed

I wouldn't think so.. Pay off your debt and you won't have to worry about it.

if you have money for a savings account you should be able to pay back some or part of your old bank loan.
Sorry but you need to take some responsibility for your actions and deal with the consequences.

As long as you deposit cash you should be able to get an account anywhere.

You're best chance to open up a saving account is going to be with a credit union. They are usually more lenient. You will get an atm card but it won't be a debit card if you only open up a savings. You will have to get a checking acct if you wish to have a debit card. I have been in your shoes before and know how rough it can be. Best of luck.

most likely, you can get a bank account, but the other bank will sieze the money. you might want to get a pre-paid credit card instead.

good question.

It depends on the bank and how much you owe to the other bank. I would recomment calling your previous bank and making payment plan, this will at least put your debt to them in a good standing (well sorta). It also depends on your credit score as a whole. If you have horrible credit, some places won't touch you, while others might let you open an account but won't supply you with checks/debit cards, so your only way to access money is by withdrawing it. This ensures you don't overdraft. So I would check it out, I'm not sure where you live or what banks you have. But I would recomment Compass or US bank. Good luck!

you might be able to use chase bank. i just opened an acount with then this week for checking/savings.it is a 25$ min for each acount.

if they decline you, just use cash for awhile. it's harder but not impossible. i did it for the first 10 years that i worked.
the night before payday i would add up the bills, and when i got my check cashed i would get money orders to send out. after than the left over cash was groceries and gas, babysitter,
and then if anything was left it was our "play" money.
if you decide to do it like this, get a littlle notebook to keep reciepts in and to write down what youve spent $ on. that way you can track what you need to cut down on.

Get some written proof of a payment plan with the Bank you owe money to. Some managers will accept that and open a savings account. Or bring proof when it is completly paid off. The credit buereau may not have it updated as quick as you need it to. A Savings account only comes with an ATM card, unless you have a Passbook Savings account then it just comes with a book no card.

Yes. When it comes to receiving deposits, banks could care less if you are in debt. Checking or savings with ATM is not a problem.
