LP | I owe money but i dont have it right now...? |
I owe approximately $1,000 to collection agencies (3), I really want to pay them, but I honestly do not have the money right now. I am keeping myself out of more debt by making sure I can pay my other obligations i have right now (light, rent, car/car insurance). I barely have enough money left over every two weeks to pay for gas to get back and forth to work. I know i could sell my car (but i need a car, and i owe a lot more than its worth so it'd be stupid to sell and not very beneficial), i've already discontinued cable & internet at home. I shop at Aldi's for the bare necessities I need to eat every week, no out to eat or anything. How can i stop these companies from takin me to court or adding on fees? I really want to pay them, but I just dont have the money now. Most want you to pay like $100 right away and then $100 a month, and I just dont have it!! |

Pay what you can... it will at least stop them from taking you to court and garnishing your wages if it comes to that. Also, they may be able to lower some fees if you ask them, but only after you have been making continuous payments should you ask for this. |

You should look into getting a second job on the weekends or evenings. You would be able to pay a little bit to collectors and maybe have some left over to enjoy life a little bit. |

The first thing that comes to mind is to get a second job until you get caught up. Also, they can ask for whatever they want, but you don't necessarily have to send that amount. Send something. Ten or twenty dollars a month or so. This shows good intention on your part and would bode well for you if you are ever taken to court for this. |

Maybe have a garage sell, if not where you live maybe find someone you know that lives in a high traffic area. List stuff on e-bay that you don't need anymore. Don't you have family or a friend that will let you use their computer to list it.
Maybe get a part-time job close by your house. Just temp for a couple hours a week or call Mom or Dad, Sister, Brother, and ask for help.
I just ignore the calls until I get a little money saved up and then I send it to them. Once I waited so long they settled for a smaller amount! That helped a lot. They get an incentive for getting you to pay it off so that is where the threats come from.
Good luck to you! Whatever you do try and NOT file for bankruptcy! |

i have the same problem. i just don't answer the phone when they call. but my best friend had this problem and they began to garnish her wages, so she had to file for bankruptcy. send them 5 dollars if you can whenever you can. as long as you send them SOMETHING, they really can't bother you because you are making an effort |

It sounds like you're really trying to cut your expenses. Good for you! I know it sucks, but you are already doing well and handling the situation amicably.
But get creative and start earning more money.
-Sell your stuff on eBay. Books, CD's, clothes, or whatever you got that you don't need.
-Take a second job on weekends for a few months just to earn some extra cash. Or... Consider getting another job altogether which pays enough so that you can live comfortably.
-Shop around for car insurance. I bet you can find a cheaper option if you look hard enough. Even if it's only a $25 difference, that's money you can put towards your debt.
-Cut down on food expenses. Don't eat out, and try to buy items you can combine to make really cheap meals. Think rice, pasta and some type of sauce or beans. Meat is ridiculously expensive, so is fruit, veggies etc.
Do not consider bankrupcy - there's a new law which states that you will be held liable for the amount regardless. Plus, it's really bad to end up filing for bankrupcy for just $1000.
Lastly, you MUST call the collection agency and work out a deal, or your debt will continue to increase. Tell them that you are in a very difficult situation at the moment, but that you want to resolve it asap. Suggest paying $50 a month or whatever you can. If you don't cut a deal with them, you are really looking at financial hell. |

Hi,
I used "Credit Solution" to settle my debt and improve my credit score. They managed to reduce my debt up to 58% .It's legitimate.I came across this company on NBC News Special Edition.Check it out here:

Tell them how much you can afford to pay ($2, $10, etc.) and how often you can pay it. Send a check (for documentation purposes when they cash it) with a certified letter to put this new agreement in writing. If you live up to your end of the bargin, they can't harrass you about the debt.
Collectors usually have to make "quota", meaning get a certain amount of money in by the end of the month to keep their jobs. That's why you'll usually get a bunch of calls toward the middle to end of the month.
You may want to look into picking up a part time job to ease your burden. And IF you actually receive a court summons because they are suing you, go to Legal Aid (free/sliding fee) because their attorneys will work with your creditor's corporate attorneys to work out a payment plan.
Good luck! |

Do not let the collection agencies threaten you or scare you. Pay for the basics first and then pay off the debt. Write down expenses to track your expenses. If you are spending more than 50% of your take home pay on the basics, you are paying too much. If your spending on lights, rent, car, car payments and food is more the 50% of your pay check after taxes, you are spending too much on the basic of life. No amount of cutting luxuries will help you.
I suggest you find a cheaper place to stay or spilt a place with someone else. An extra job will help.
If sell the car, you will have a smaller loan to pay off. If you pay off the smaller loan quickly, that will free up cash for other things. |

You may not owe a lot, but it really sounds like you should look into bankruptcy. You're part of the population called the "working poor" and bankruptcy were intended for people like you. Really there's no other choice. You could try to get a consolidation loan, but usually those just add to the problem. |

Apply for a payoff loan. Your bank can help you. Get a loan to pay off the debt and get a low monthly fee to pay off your bank. Basically your bank would payoff your debt collectors. Its easier because you only have deal with your bank instead of numerous collection agencies calling you to pay up. Your bank would give you a low monthly payment that you can handle. |

collection agencies suck.... they buy your debt from companies that have given up on you paying it and hope to profit. If I were you i would make it so that it is a bad investment on their behalf. 99.9% of the talk and idle threats of taking you to court are merely scare tactics. best thing is not to worry about it. |

They don't care that you don't have the money and that you want to pay them. They notice that you're not paying them, and that's what they care about.
The only way to stop the companies from getting into the legal system/adding fees is to pay them what you owe.
Since you don't have the money, looks like you need to take a trip to mommy and daddy's to ask to borrow some money. |
