They say that as the account was not used for over two years it is classed as redundunt and therefore closed. Is this correct or am I entitled to my money and any interest it may have accrued? |

If the account is "Dormant" the bank needs to demonstrate that they have tried all reasonable means to get in contact with you to up date the account status. Unless they can demonstrate that they tried to get in contact with you, then you are entitled to full credit for the account plus interest accrued over the last 28 years.
If you have no joy take what information you have to the financial ombudsman and let them make a ruling on your behalf. |

Well, if the money is yours it's yours!
The account would have gone into dormancy, if you have proof you deposited the money etc. argue and try to get it back.
The bank should have set down procedures for retrieving money from dormancy.
As a matter of interest, which bank is it? |

If it was in the terms and conditions when you signed up.... tough luck
If they notified you of the terms before they made the account redundant... tough luck
If not, you should contact the banking ombudsman, they cannot change the terms of a contract without notifying you
in any case, the original deposit is yours by law, and - if you can prove ownership, they should give you the original plus any interest accrued up to the point it was closed |

You need to contact the 'Financial Services Ombudsman'.
It may be a matter of whether you can prove the money is yours. If you can, then the banks stance may well be wrong. |

the money is owed to you. it should be classed as an unclaimed account.
they should pay you the £30 and any interest owed.
contact the bankings ombudsman for advice. |

Find out exactly when they closed the account and what they done with any monies sitting in it.
when they closed the account they should have written to you and enclosed a cheque for your final balance. |

i believe that they must prove that they have made every effort to trace you before making the account redundanr. check with the banking ombudsman |
