I received a check as a graduation gift. How do I convert it to cash?

Mystyk
You have to go to a bank and cash it. If you don't have an account, mabye your parents do and they can cash it for you if you sign it over to them. Hope this helps you! Congrats on Graduation and the best of luck to you.

it's called cashing the check and a lot of banks do it for a fee if you don't have an account with them (which it sounds like you don't)

Maybe you should go back to school.

TINKERBELLE
If you go to the bank it was drawn on you will have no problem cashing the cks with proper id.

If you are under eighteen, your parents can cash the check, or you could open a saving account if the amount is over $100.00

If you're too young to have a bank account, ask your parents to deposit the check into their account and to give you the cash.

Take it and your I.D. to a bank.

Take it to a bank and tell them you want to cash it. You'll have to sign the back of it, too, and possibly show some ID.

You can cash it at a local bank or credit union with proper identification if you have an account there. If you don't have a bank or credit union account, now it the time to open one since you have graduated now, a major milestone toward independence. I would invest 10% of the check in yourself by depositing it to a savings.
Other routes are to take it to Walmart, a local grocery store or check cashing place such as Amscot. They all charge a fee, however.

If you don't have a bank account, the bank your parents use should cash it for you. If you are under 18 your parents can cash it at the bank. Do not go to one of those check cashing stores, they charge you a fee.

Toe the line
1. Take it to your bank with your ID and cash it.
2. Take it to the bank that the check is written on with your ID and
cash it there.
3. Have someone with an account place the check into their bank
by signing the back of the check and having them cash it thru
their account after having also to sign the check as well.

Most businesses are not going to cash a 'third party check' (which is what the check becomes if it isn't cashed running it thru your bank or the bank it is written on) because of the legal problems it brings up if the check isn't any good.

My suggestion - go to their bank if it is close or get your own account.

Um no offense but if you can't figure out how to cash a check you need to ask someone in your family to help you, if you don't have a bank account make one at a bank, and if you were never taught the basic financial stuff you need to keep living at home until you learn how the financial world work stuff you need to learn is taxes, cashing a check, opening a bank account, writing out a deposit or withdrawl slip, credit cards, bill paying, rent paying, etc... ask a family member who you feel comfortable asking to help teach you.

Umm.......maybe you should go to a bank and cash it. graduate

Take to the bank that the check it from. So if it's a bank of america check go there. Make sure to bring TWO forms of ID that are different. Such as a state ID and a passport. Most places do not take simply school IDs.
And if you haven't already I reccomend you get a checking account so you can save money. As soon as you're 18 you should have one to manage money. Not to mention if you're going to college any time soon it will be absolutely neccesary. You can't exactly bring 1500 in cash to school to pay for tuition can you? :D

Assuming you don't have a bank account of your own... Check cashing places generally charge a percentage fee to do it. You can go to the bank the funds are drawn on. ie BofA Wells Fargo ie. and they should cash it up to a certain amount. Either a parent (guardian) or friend who has a checking account that will cash it for you. all you do is sign the check over to them and they sign under yours and cash it.
