In this letter it says I won this money from a computerized sweepstakes ballot and the money I was sent is to pay the taxes and adminstrative fees, when I cash this I need to go to a goverment agency and pay this and in 3 days I get my 57,000.00 .The woman was very rude I was trying to ask questions and she kept insisting to forfeit the money, If I was not going to do what she instructed.I have to call her back tommrow and have the money in hand to go to the agency.what should i do? I do remeber a contest I entered a long time ago but really dont know what to do ,I am unemployed right know and this check looks really appling to me right know even if I dont get the 57,000. My gut feeling says Its bull . Please Help Or if anybody else has had this issue happen. What did you do? |

-- that is the ONLY reason why you are asking this question.
Your emotions are clouding your judgement. You already have heard about this type of fraud but because of your overwhelming needs you want to give it a try. DO NOT. No lottery winnings will require you to pay a fee before you get the money. You are supposed to get the money first then pay taxes on it - not the other way around. But I think you already know this.... p.s. sorry for your current unemployment I know your situation is not easy but dont let a RUDE THIEF take advantage of it. |

Don't do it, it's a scam, my sister did the same thing, once she deposited she had to send them money for the fees, and they took all the money back out of her account, and now she has to pay the bank back for the check she deposited. They couldn't trace it b/c it was an invalid account. Some off-shore crap. I know it looks good but it's not worth the outcome. |

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is a scam!
Follow your gut feeling and rip this junk piece of paper up - the cost of the stamp is worth more than that check.

its most likely a scam. i know for a fact that there are scams out there that operate similarly to what you are currently faced with. what they do is claim they have a big sum of money in your name and all they need you to do in order for them to send you the money is pay for a transaction, or processing fee of some sorts. who knows, it can be 50 dollars, but its more like to be a couple hundred to a thousand. then once you pay, they make off with your money.
but you say you entered a contest in the past and maybe it might be legit, in which case it would be a huge blunder if you were to miss out. who knows man, maybe if you are willing to jump through a few hoops and pay a little dough, and your not worried about being ripped off, then go for it. |

Its a scam. They have these type of mails out quick often in these 2 years. If you check the CNN website, they did mention about that too. Do not give them any personal information, they could steal your identity and get you in trouble. Not only you wont be getting pay, you might end of losing money .... |

It is a SCAM. The check is fake but probably looks perfectly real.
It will bounce but only after you send the money out via wire or Western Union. |

never trust it when you have to pay people you don't know in order to get money, its complete and utter bull manure!They especially "prey"on the unfortunates and the dispossessed,don't fall for it ! ,or ,-if your greed is bigger than your common sense-, INFORM yourself ! show the "to-good-to-be-thru"letter to someone who can give you legal advise,or fall for it and deserve the consequences for you would be some "helluva gull able dumb ***"!! p.s.i hope you'll be more lucky in a well paid job you like doing with cool colleges!! |

Look at the letter.
They are demanding that you send money in 3 days. That's just enough time for your bank to give you a TEMPORARY credit for the money, but not long enough for the check to actually clear. When it's found out to be fake/stolen, the bank would want all of their money back.
Besides, they are telling you to send money via Western Union to a "tax agent." No tax agency accepts money this way. The IRS only has you pay the US Treasury, not Joe Blow, agent.
BTW, the scams are getting very prevalent. I've got an answering machine full of calls claiming that "my account" at such-and-such bank has been compromised (I don't have said accounts) and that I must call immediately. Apparently some company sold the scammers an automatic dialer. |
