I'd put it to work for you and start drawing some interest. Probably in the energy field. But, a home is not a bad idea. Interest rates are low and there are foreclosures all over the place. Do your homework... and good for you for not being a person who spends every penny.

E
yeah..... must be rough!!!

I'd put $30,000 down on a house, and save the other $20

beauty s
house, better in the long run...

josephcodner
the best thing to do is invest in a property, you should only put down about 5k and use the rest to make your payments monthly. do not buy a car, you pay 35k, and once you drive off the lot the value decline. if you put a large down payment on a house and dont meet certain requirements you can lose your money.

what sucks about having $50,000??????

i'd say just spend it on what you think you'll need more in the long run... but don't spend all of it, just in case.....

(or u could just send some to me...)

The car of your dreams will be worth $0.00 in two decades.

Put a large down payment on the car and the rest on a house note.

realestate baby!!! You'll just end up smashing the car.

You could buy the car of your dreams. Or go on some trip but then it's just money simply wasted. A car is a bad investment and I'm sure you worked very hard to save that money. Why not turn it into more???

I would take the money go to my local tax office look at the foreclosure docket and find a home I think I can steal. Pick the house go look at a few of them and then find out the sale date which is on the docket. Go to the auction and invest your money. You will be glad you did. You turn that 50 into 100 and then if you must go buy your car :) Have fun you earned it buddy!!!! Good luck!!

Please don't blow your hard work on a really spiffy car. They depreciate SO fast it's pathetic. Just don't do it.
A decent house investment is worth it, I think. A car depreciates a house *usually* appreciates! Just the land will appreciate too.

Don't be impatient, THINK before you act. Not many people can say they saved that much AND maybe in your future (I hope not) you won't be able to again.

Be smart about it, no cool wheels.

Continue to save it, of course. Pretend it is not there. Consult with numerous financial experts for a broad perspective of how to most intelligently nurture your nest egg. Save more. Kudos to you for having the chutzpah to save so much.

The timing for the house is not the best. We seem to be at the top of the curve.
Try keeping it in a CD until the RE market bottoms, and then invest in a positive cash flow property.
Or go shopping for a used car of your dreams from a desperate seller. Since you have cash you should be able to make a great deal and then enjoy it for awhile and then sell it for a profit. And then do it again.
