I am trying to sell my 2001 jeep grand cherokee for $3000. I woke up this morning and had an email saying that a guy wanted to buy it and he would be sending me a bank check. Then he tells me that he just got married and is going to dubai for his honeymoon.
The guy is going to send me $7400, and wants me to take my $3000 + $100 for my services, and then send the rest to his mover, the person who will take the car. I am a little on edge right now about this, and I want to know what others think. Thanks

This is a common scam, the seller places a ad on Craigs list or other Internet site. The buyer always sends a money order or cashiers check (the checks are fake but look very real) you take the check to the bank and deposit it and withdraw the $4,300 and get a cashiers check and send it to the buyer out of the country. About 2 weeks later the bank tells you the check was fake and pulls out $7,400 out of your account. The mover will never show up to pick up the car. FIRST QUESTION WHY WOULD ANYONE SEND YOU $7,400 FOR A $3,000 CAR??????? AND TRUSTS YOU TO SEND THE BALANCE TO SOMEONE ELES???? THE ANSWER IS THE CHECK HE SENT YOU IS FAKE!!!!!!! This is an old scam and people fall for it every day. This was just on the news lastnight. Also would you send someone more than twice the amount for a car you have never seen. Come on think about!! |

His check will be bad, and you will send good money.
Meaning you are out any money you send.
The bank will come after you for cashing the $7400 bad check.
You dont know this guy, or owe him anything. Dont feel bad about it for one second. |

The funny thing is, the bank will accept the check (probably), it will take two or even 3 weeks for it to "bounce" then you are S O L.

Dont do it - it's a well known SCAM !!!! I bet it involves him sending you a cheque and then you sending the cash to his mover via Western Union Transfer. Its a very old NIGERIAN scam xxx
You say he is sending you the money - no doubt he is - by way of a CHEQUE. That cheque WILL bounce but it doesn't come to light until after you send his money on to him. Therefore you are out of pocket by the amount you sold your car for plus the amount you send him. Have a look at a site called scambusters - it's rife and so many people get caught out. Come on think about it - why would anyone send you more than the amount you are asking. |

DON'T DO IT! You are definately being scammed! I work at a bank and I know all the tricks that creeps pull on people. NEVER take more then what you're asking for with the request to send the difference back. The check they write you will come back not good and you will be stuck with $7400 owed to your bank. |

This IS a scam. He wants to send you a phony check or money order, have you take it to your bank, cash it (it will take a few days before the bank discovers it's fake), and send him the $3300 in REAL funds.

It is a scam,he is paying you $100 for the services of cashing a fake check,then you would send $3300 to someone he does not know in the US,someone he is pulling a scam on as well,through western union or money gram,try to tell him you would like to keep $500 for yourself he would solely agree,he does not really need the car but the $3300 extra,my advice for you,cash the check keep the money for yourself,cause some of those checks might never bonce,you can save the money and use it for something,then whenever it bounces you can pay back,not losing anything

The check is fake. It will bounce but only after you send the money to his "mover" which is probably just himself. Payments sent out by Western Union or wire transfer can not be reversed leaving you on the hook when the check bounces. |

Sounds very scammy. Keep in mind that even if the check 'clears' this does not mean the check is not fake. Banks need to clear checks within a few days, but that does not mean that they have actually received the money. If it turns out that the check is a fake, YOU WILL NEED TO RETURN THE MONEY YOU WITHDREW. This may not seem fair, but it is absolutely legal.
If you are determined to go thru with this transaction, make sure that you check with the bank to ensure that the funds are transferred (not just cleared) before you proceed.
Often scammers will try to rush the deal through and get their money from you before your bank can find out their check is a fake. If it seems like you are being rushed to make a quick decision that is another sure sign of a scam. |

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Why would someone agree to pay you more than you asked for, especially without asking any additional questions, or asking to see it first? It doesn't make sense. If it feels wrong, just tell him you found another buyer and move on. |

Don't send this guy anything! Find someone else to buy it, or this guy can wait until he gets back and do it himself. Don't ever send someone money first with the promise that they will send you something back.
P.S. I saw this scam on tv just the other day. Even if the check appears to have cleared, it really hasn't. It could take weeks before it bounces. |

have you ever heard... you don't get something for nothing? yea it's a scam, and a pretty popular one at that. and on top of that now you will start to receive all kinds of junk mail form these types of spamers. you just opened up a can of worms.
Block this person and any other mail you start to receive. Do Not Open the mail just block it.
