Cindy O | I think the bank stole my money? |
A couple weeks ago I deposited cash into the atm. And then a couple days later I get a notice in the mail that supposedly the envelope was empty. I am SURE/POSITIVE that i put the money in there within the envelope and placed it into the machine. I go into the branch today and the idiot tells me that supposedly the envelope wasn't sealed well and the money might have been stuck in the machine. Has this ever happend to any of you? I am convinced this branch is fishy and they stole my money. When i called customer service the lady said she hadn't heard of something like that. I don't what else to do, but I KNOW that I placed money into that envelope. |

Well, you say the branch is "fishy", so I don't know what the outcome will be. This happened to me. I put some checks in the envelope and $50 in CASH. Well, the bank claimed the cash was never in the envelope. Yeah right. My assumption was that the clerk deposited the checks and pocketed the cash.
So, I called the bank (it's a big name bank) and spoke with the department who handles claims. I filed a claim. She seemed pretty positive about the whole thing but I wasn't convinced I'd get my money back.
I filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. After a few days, I got my money back and the BBB report was closed. So file a report because the BBB will contact the bank about it and most likely it will get someone's attention over there. I would also call the bank, ask for a manager, NOT a dumb bank teller or customer service rep and file a claim.
By the way, I was so pissed at this bank who I banked with for over 10 years and closed the account. |

YOu need to keep going up the chain of command with this. Keep asking to talk to a higher person up. If you were at the atm, then they may still have footage. I wouldn't just let this go. I would also when all is said and done, take your business to a different bank. |

Wow that's crazy!! of course I would try and do something about it. I would get in contact with the branch manager and tell he/she what is happening. Also don't deposit boxes usually have cameras out there? maybe that could be a possibility of seeing if you sealed the envelope or not? good luck!! |

That happened to me when I went to withdraw from the atm. It was short $40.00 from the $100.00. They said they would check at the end of the day, I told them that's not acceptable. Sure enough the extra 40.00 fell through the machine and was on the bottom. If they refuse to follow through, tell them your next calls will be with the Banking Commission in your State and FTC |

I paid money into one of those machines one night when I had too many libations. Being in my inebriated state, I kept missing that Little draw that opens, so I managed to push the money up the flap where the envelope comes out.
The next morning I woke up with horrors to what I had done and rang the bank. Luckily, they had found the money and all was well. They were quite amazed that you could do what I did.
I wouldn't trust those machines though. It is not unheard of for bank workers to steal money. If you hadn't sealed the envelope properly, some scum could have taken it knowing it will be very difficult for you to prove.
Kick up a stink and don't be fobbed off. Ask for surveillance photos of you putting the money in and which member of staff emptied it. They'll back down if you are persistent. |

Well, if it wasn't sealed well, the money is still in the machine, eh? Then perhaps they need to go get it out! Problem solved.
In any case, I have never had this happen and don't know anyone that it has happened to. So I suspect your situation is rather rare. |

First off just for Sh*ts and Giggles how much was it. also I would take this to the main branch whether it's local or not at least call them tell them the problem and that you want this looked into. If they don't you can call whatever the name is the insurance the bank has. or whatever the bank is covered with and tell them that you have reason to believe that the bank has taken you money you had deposited from the atm and/or that the money had somehow gotten lost and that bank is not willing to work with you to find that money. You can do something about it. a lot of people just let banks all all over them just because they have your money and it seems as though they run a clean ship doesn't mean they are always right and that some of them aren't shady. Don't let anything or anyone walk all over you. Stand up to the bank and tell them you demand that they find the money you deposited, I don't know how old you are but it sounds as if your young the banks tend to scam when they can on younger kids they don't any better. This is your money treat it like they work for you. Because they do, you are in turn paying them to keep hold and keep your money safe and secure. |

Talk to the manager of the bank , and call customer service again and talk to someone different do they have security tape they can watch? |

Ask them to pull the surveillance footage.
If that doesn't work, go and talk to the police. |

This is actually the reason i never deposit cash into the ATM. I always go inside and wait in the long line to deposit cash for fear this thing would happen to me and there would be nothing i could do about it.
Its possible the guy that empties the machine took it, but as far as the bank is concerned they think its more possible that you didnt put money into the envelope, so I hate to say it, but looks like you are out that cash. I hope it wasnt alot. |
