There are two basic psychological reasons. First, people don't like bad news in general. Second, predictions of economic trouble tend to become self-fulfilling prophesies; as people begin to fear financial troubles, they avoid taking chances or making investments, behaviors which slow down the economy and increase the chance of a recession taking place.
There's also the practical observation that not all economists agree on this forecast in the first place. |

If they are telling you "don't say that," rather than "that's not true" then they most likely think you're probably right but they don't want to acknowledge the idea because they consider it negative. They just don't want to worry about things. Sounds like they think if they don't see it it's not there |

They don't want you to jinx us, lol!
They are just scared of what the future will bring, so they'd rather not face it. America likes it this way. As long as people continue acting this way, we will not be able to change the fact that it is coming. |

i think you are right...about the recession. |

All of the above, especially many of us who have lived though a serious recession (think: Reagan-nomics).. Really, it is a sort of mini-depression and a time of unemployment, not making enough money for expenses, possibly not being able to support your family, loosing the car, the house, etc.
So I think mostly it's not wanting to think about and fear.
I think we are already in the beginning of one- hope to God this one doesn't turn into a depression. |

I think people get paraniod about what could happen. It appears to go around a lot for almost anything in life. |

Reminds me of the old joke...
What is the difference between a recession and a depression?
A recession is when your neighbor is out of work. A depression is when you are out of work!
The experts disagree on whether we are heading into a recession which is why you are hearing what you are hearing. |

They say it to try to stay positive, not to avoid the truth. If it's coming, we have no choice but to accept it so why worry about it before it gets here? |

You sound like you only want people to agree with you. If they said no its not, then that would start an arguement most likely. |

I dont think so, as long America is playing a folse threten war the oil prices will go up and the $ will lose some points, so that America will have a big chace to force the rich arab to sell their stoks, and then thinges will be better. |

Well this isn't rocket science-- people don't want to hear that we are. I'm suprised you feel you have to ask this question. |

Do you know what a recession is? I bet you don't. There is no evidence that we are headed into a recession, based upon the numbers.
For the record, the definition of a recession is two or more consecutive quarters of negative GDP. The last quarter reported saw a growth rate of 3+ percent. That's pretty healthy. |

When words are used then it is called "putting it out there in the universe" and if you remember....that is how God created everything ....by the Word. Therefore, yes...by saying something aloud it can make a difference in the outcome. Better to think positive thoughts for a positive future. |

Don't ask would be a good one. Or how about What did you say. Or this one, Shut Up!. These are all boring and certainly intellectuals don't talk this way. |
