I want to move out in 3 months , what should i start doing now?
i have a job i have a reliable car , I'm also in college . yes it is absolutely necessary .

find a roomate to split costs
find a cheap apartment (studio if by self)
Make SURE you bring home more than 3 times what the rent is.
Talk to apt. management. Find out what their qualifications are to rent their, and then do them. You will have to have enough cash to pay deposits on apt., water bill, electric bill, and gas bill. Call around for cheaper rates for these. Don't just assume the ones the apt's. give you is the best one. Look into renters insurance, as you should get that too, if you can afford it. Make sure your car has full coverage. If you wreck it in winter months, you could lose your job, and ultimately your new home. OR find an apt. that is on the local bus line, and ride the bus back and forth. (Your safety is main concern of course - if you live in nasty area, don't put yourself in danger for a "cheaper" deal) That goes for apt's. and bus lines, etc. DO YOUR RESEARCH. Make sure you aren't neighbors with ....... let's say a halfway house, or someone registered on familywatchdog.com Also look into freecycle.com for furniture, etc.

GOOD LUCK! and CONGRATS on getting out on your own! It's a HUGE step!

DO NOT use any plastic you have. the last thing you need now is debt. you need to save as much as you can. check around for rent prices in your area. you should have six months stocked away before your ready to move. look into roomates you can live with.

pits_me1
Are you saving money? I mean a lot of money, the way the economy is today, you actually need two or three people living together. The gas is going up, as well as all other expiences. So think about how much money you are making, do not do what I did when I moved out, and that was messed up my credit because I was in over my head. Everyone makes it look so easy. Just remember that. Maybe your parents have told you that. Is your car paid off??

If any of your friends will let you stay with them for a few months do that! Then make sure you have a good amount of money in a savings account so that if your in trouble you'll have something there! One more thing start budgeting plan how you are going to use your money this will make sure that you you get everything you need! If you though ths was helpful please tell me!

save alot of money for down payment and for the first rent

Angela Dawn
you should go ahead and look for a place to move to... and get a good idea of what you are looking for and what will be coming open around that time :)

Moving out on your own is a big step. Take your time at looking at apartments and compare rent prices. My daughter is 20 and also in college. She too decided it was time she moved out. After looking at a few places she got anxious and ended up renting the tiniest little house you have ever seen. It is so small that she has a couch on one wall and the tv on the wall directly across from the couch. There is the smallest little walk space between the couch and tv and her rent is $600.00. She no sooner moved in, and houses sprang up for rent all over the place...bigger and cheaper than what she lives in. My point is...don't be in too big a rush. Be sure you figure out what all your monthly bills will be, and include how much you will need to spend on food, toiletries and cleaning products each month. I reallly wish you well. This is a fun and exciting move! (no pun intended).

find a place to leave to
and finance is important
so get a 2nd job

Think independent, if only in your mind. Your necessities will be a place to live and transportation to a job (so as to have income to support yourself).
Start educating yourself to local apt costs. You might HAVE TO share with someone.. if you can get by without it, you are better off. Roomates have a nasty habit of looking good to start with, and becoming flaky the week before rent is due. When you are able to rely on yourself, you won't be vulnerable to that.
Overall.. part time jobs are seldom enough to live on.
When you are living on your own.. the basics HAVE TO come first. You may have to have some flexibility in terms of college, even if I hate seeing anyone give up education. Many persons live on their own, and continue school, but the school has to fit in around having a reliable income.
One other option is to chat with the counselor at school, who may know of some low cost alternatives to offer.
I won't debate your definition of necessary. Hope your choice can be made without animosity or bridge burning.
Good luck
ps- I made that choice when I was 19. At 58, I still regret not getting even an AA degree. For what it is worth, m'friend.

1st thing is to save up for a deposit ( all places require a move in deposit plus that months rent)

2nd thing is to look into purchasing furniture

3rd thing is to start making sure you can afford all your bills electric, cable, phone, etc
=
4th research the areas you are thinking of moving into to make sure they are good areas.

chocolate addict
what exactly are you asking? are you asking solely about money? Save! If you don't have furniture and dont have much cash, try craigslist for used furniture. If ur in college tell them how much your rent will be so maybe they can up ur cost of attendance. Check your credit to make sure you will get accepted into a apartment. You could also rent a room from someone's house or find a roommate. that would be cheaper. I don't know much of your senario and what youre trying to do.

three months is sometimes, not enough time however, if you are really gonna try...
-get a second job.
-dont use your disposable income. save it.
-save save save.
-buy dishes, furniture, etc for cheap...unless someone gives you it.
take what you can get right now cuz u can buy it later

browse the internet to get an idea of the prices for different types of apartments in different areas.

the areas that you are interested in, drive around the neighborhood at night to see if there is any difference during the day, and if it looks "safe" at night

save. save. save.

work out a budget and stick to it.

Start saving as much as possible. Find a VERY TRUSTWORTHY roommate. You really need to be able to trust a roommate! This will allow you to split the bills. If not, you may want to look into financial aid at school. If they have a dorm, you might want to look at moving in there.

Keep your expenses as low as you can and finish school, you won't regret it in the long run. It may be hard, but do everything in your power to do it. School should be priority #1!

You will most likely need 1st and last months rent and start-up fees for your utilities.

Start building a budget, so that you are sure you can afford everything.

Good luck (Don't burn any bridges that you may need again)!

Shred your credit cards and throw them in the trash. Get on a strict written budget and pay cash for everything. Estimate your future living expenses and save as much money as possible (at least $1000). When you move, go to the post office and fill out a "mail address change" form so that all of your mail will follow you to your new place. Good luck.
