Second serious answer for you - the Co-operative Bank are the best. They don't invest in companies with poor track records for causing pollution or abusing their workers. |

HSBC have just done a 'green sale' planting trees etc and helping the environment for each insurance policy, mortgage, bank acct that was taken out over that period so they are obviously trying to do their bit. Plus they are a good bank! |

Co-op bank have a 'green philosophy' they only deal with fair trade companies.
I've just got a pension and I opted for the fair trade option. My financial advisor said that co-op will only deal with other companies who have been checked and verified. This means that they wont buy or sell to people like Marks and Sparks for example cox they buy things from sweat shops.
Co-Op Bank's ethical policy, adopted 10 years ago, states it will not invest in or provide financial services to organisations dealing in areas like the arms trade or blood sports, or organisations whose policies it feels may harm the environment.
Co-op have bank accounts, I'm sure they'll advertise about their fair trade policy on the net. |

Your options are limited. Co-op Bank has long history of attempting to trade ethically whilst also being commercial. |

OH.MY.GOD. So banks are planting trees now? Whatever next? Oil companies sponsoring orphans perhaps?
It's a freakin' bank. Go for the one that has the lowest fees and be done with it. If you're so "green", you wouldn't need a bank account. You'd be living off the land somewhere, keeping your money in a recycled paper bag stashed under your futon in your mud hut.
A Capitalist Hippie. I've seen it all :P |

As long as your bank is FDIC insured, then no worries. It should be posted on the doors of banks that are. |

Lloyds is green and black. |

What do you mean by green? If you are worried about the bank going under then make sure you are banking at a bank that is FDIC insured. Although it is very unlikely that a bank will go under this will ensure your money is safe to place there. |
