I wonder how you all feel about 4.00 gas prices?
Just how high do you think it will go before it quits and what will happen to everyone and all our bills inbetween all this

4.00 gas was inevitable.

Why?

The politicians have NOT allowed one refinery to be built IN OVER 30 YEARS.

Let's look at supply and demand.

Every year, more cars on the road, but no refineries built in over 30 years. You do the math.

P.S. When we go to gas rationing, then and only then will the politicians finally figure out "Houston, we have a problem" OOPS! should have started building refineries 10 years ago.

65% water
$4.00 a gallon is about half what Europeans are paying. Americans have historically paid the least per gallon of any developed nation other than the oil-producing nations. I think as Americans we should be creative enough to find something else to complain about.

It's going to go up to at least $5 a gallon, shortly. It's going to make life much more difficult for most middle class people. They're all going to have to make choices. The problem is that just about everything else is going to go up, a lot because of the gas prices.

Opti
The future of gas prices depends on us not the officals who choose the prices. I say this because we dont do anything about it. We do keep buying the gas and we dont stop using our cars. If you cant offord it then only using it for going far places.

If you have a teenager who is using the car then say to them they can only use a certian of miles a week with the car.

If you are going up the road to get a coffee then take your bike or walk.

If your kid has school have them take their bike or walk you could go with them too. For older kids it may not be the coolest things to do but really, if we want gas prices to go down then we need to do this.

Lets show the gas staions that we can take a stand and are not going to put up with this.

I feel that sky high oil and gas prices are primarily due to a speculative bubble. Back in the 90's we saw the dot.com bubble, then the housing bubble, and now we are seeing an oil and commodity bubble. Like the others, this bubble will eventually pop. Why do I think it's a bubble? Because there is no rational reason for prices to double in the last year (yes, up by 100%). Demand is up, but just slightly. Supply hasn't gone down. Mid-east tensions are no worse then a year ago. Quite frankly, it's investment money looking for a better return then traditional investments, by bidding up commodity prices.

Unfortunately for us, these higher prices act like a tax on us and on the economy. We pay more but get nothing extra for it.

However, one has to realize that gasoline really eats up a small part of the average family's spending. The family now must make a few choices. Go on our normal summer vacation, or keep gassing up the family's 2 SUVs for another year. That kind of thing. Of course poorer families will have a harder time, because there are less frills to cut out.

My adjustment will be to keep the wife's 9 year old gas thrifty compact car a year longer then we anticipated, to reduce monthly payments. To make it up to her, I'll offer to drive it every other month myself, and she can drive my car, which is a 1 year old mid-sized sedan instead.

Longer term, even though I hate to say it, I think $4 per gallon gas is a good thing. We American's have needed a kick in the butt to force us to conserve and develop alternatives for quite a while. I can't tell you how many people I know driving around big SUVs or those real big pick up trucks, who never ever haul around any kids or equipment. America has gone way too overboard on wasting gas. It's just a shame we didn't get here on our own, by raising gas taxes in increments, and letting the free market adjust with solutions.

If for the last 10 years, we had raised gas taxes 25 cents gallon per year, and used that money to reduce social security and medicare payroll taxes, we'd still have the exact same money in our pocket, but we'd all be driving more fuel efficient vehicles. It's a shame none of our political leaders had any vision to do this when gas prices were cheap.

It will for sure stay at this rate and the price will increase.

It all centers around the strength of the dollar. It is not worth crap anymore. Why? US banks and many major banks overseas are in trouble because of the whole mortgage thing...... they invested in loans that nobody could afford.

Pfft, it's been over $4 here for a long time now. It's going to be hitting $5 any day now, I am sure. It's bogus and no one is doing a damn thing about it. It's easy for people to cut their gas consumption, but businesses won't and thus the price of food and essentials are going up too, and that's just not right. I just hope it doesn't go up to $6.

I think the President needs to stop joking America and do something. Gas prices are only going up because we let them raise the price to whatever they want to ask for. Remember when gas prices went down? It was election time... gee so where is the greed coming from? The rich and famous, the ones with power. They can get as much as they want, and when elections are done, the price goes up again!

Also notice, NO ONE is fighting this issue head on... they keep delaying it. There's only one answer for that, they have a piece of the pie!

Greg S
I have heard analysts state that prices will go up to $6 a gallon as a nationwide average by next summer. Of course we have lower bills that Europeans we have industry that has to drive farther therefore we use more and should be getting a bulk rate discount. That being said as low of an opinion as I have of our president, I don't think it's his fight, it's ultimately the fight of the consumer. We as a nation need to car pool when we can, buy more fuel efficient vehicles and ride a bike or walk when possible.
