They are FDIC insured, the parent company ING Bank does have branches but I am not sure where in the US. The bank is a Dutch bank and may be the 11th largest bank in the world I am not sure but they are definitely not the 11th largest company.
Bottom line the are FDIC insured and therefore safe this is really all you need to make sure of with a bank until you have more than US$ 100,000 in the account then there are ways to increase this with different types of accounts. I believe you can get upto $500,000 of FDIC insurance per institution. If you have more cash than this you need an institution with **** insurance which can cover more. |

Yes they are safe. Though, you can find a better online bank with a higher interest rate. Currently its EmigrantDirect.com and HSBC Direct that gives 5.05% APY. Both are also secured. Just look at the address bar and it should say https://.... If not, then there should be security icon that looks like a lock at the bottom of your browser. Plus, all three banks are FDIC insured. |

You should always check their rating, and if the Bank you plan to deposit your money in, is FDIC insured. That will tell you how safe the Bank is. |

Yes, it is a safe company. I have accounts there for more than an year now. ING is a reputable company, plus their accounts are FDIC insured. So you don't have anything to worry about.

ING Direct is FDIC insured and your money is safe. They not only offer savings, but have great mortgages and interest checking accounts as well.
