NO, they're not the same. You really should memorize your bank account# (not the number of your ATM card), it's kind of foolish if you don't. It's like not knowing what your Social Security# is.
Btw, if you have your ATM card, you don't have to give the ATM your bank account#. Your ATM card is linked to your account#, so when you insert your card it automatically prompt you with your account number or numbers if you have more than one bank account. If you do have more than 1 bank account, when you do the deposit you can just select which account you want the check deposited to.
Oh.... btw, I believe you can only deposit thru ATM if you have an account with that bank. So, if you're with WaMu, then you can deposit thru a WaMu ATM. But if you're with let's say Bank of America, then you must deposit thru a BofA ATM. |

In some cases at some banks depending on what state you are in then yes your account # would be hidden in your card...but at Washington Mutual Bank they do not keep account numbers on the check card...the reason being is that if someone were to find the card they would know your account number and have easier access to your account to commit fraud. If you want your account # I would advise to call customer service and they will be able to provide that for you...the number is: 800-788-7000 |

NO it isn't. That would be very dangerous. The number on the card is significant to the logo that you have. Even though it is your ATM card, the first four numbers tells the card readers at the stores what type of card you have whether it is MasterCard, visa, etc. So for instance if you have a Visa logo on your card and you go to a store that doesn't accept visa then the card won't go through even though you have the money in your account. ATM cards are like that b/c the stores were already set up to take credit cards so it kind of tricks the readers to think it's a credit card. |

At my credit union, the number on the debit card is your bank account number. I don't know if it's the same everywhere but it seems like a good bet, though I believe the card number may add a couple numbers to make it longer. |
