Upon death, they come after your estate. Any money that you leave behind say like in a bank they will look for the person that's in charge of your finances to pay off the debt. However if that person claims there is no estate then they'd submit a copy of your death certificate that shows you're dead and the debt is written off. I've been down this road when my mother died. |

The debt dies with you. It is written off. Unless you are married. There is a contractual relationship there where the assets, as well as debts, are community property. |

If you leave any money or property after death, unpaid creditors could claim what is due them from your estate...before anything goes to relatives (or whoever you name in your will if you were to leave one)...but your heirs do not "inherit your debt" if there is not enough to go around for the creditors...they will not be responsible for any unpaid balance after everything you owned is used to pay what you owed. |

If you are married they go to your partner. If you are not, no then they go to no one. The only debt you owe after your death is a Mortgage. Hence the name. |

i believe they go to your estate, so whoever receives that gets your debt as well
but if you have sizeable debt, i would consult an attorney.. they may know a few tricks to help you out |

Unless you have a co-signer then they are written off. This is what I heard, anyway. |

Not if their names aren't on the cards or bills or on your house. the executor of your estate has to try to pay them with what ever asserts you have left |

the debts go against your estate...if you own nothing and are not married and your children do not live with you ..they can't collect |

No, because the debt is in your name. You're the responsible party for the debt.
I wish someone would try to leave me with someone else's debt that I did not make, they would get sued. lol |

Yes. You still have to pay after you die. The debts owed at the time of your death will come out of your estate before any other monies you may leave can be distributed to your heirs. bettyk |
