ariesalways411 | If I make more than my than my boyfriend? |
How should bills and play money be figured out...If Im bringing home almost 150-200 more than my boyfriend. I figured the man should have the better job, more money, ect...But times are different...- Long term boyfriend...We share expences. Additional Details 150-200 more a week! |

An equitable way to split up the bills is based on a percentage....of what you each bring home. Figure out what percent more than the bf you make. If it's 20%, then you should pay 20% more of the bills than he does. If your salaries change, this should be reviewed and adjusted once a year. Of course, it depends on your relationship. Should you decide to get married, I've always been in favor of the "one-for-all, all-for-one" philosophy. My husband and I always pooled our money, paid the bills, and decided together what to do with whatever was left. But by the time we did that, we were committed to building a life together. B of L. |

Who cares. If you make more then help him out a little. Its about time women start making more money! Unless he doesnt want your help. |

Please don't get offended because in my culture, we don't count the money. Therefore, we don't talk about the money and don't fight about it. That is how you share life with a love one. You don't have to worry about losing a job and getting kicked out of the house. You can't be lazy too. There is more respect and understanding to it. Good luck. |

I think the bills should be split in 2 eqaul halves. |

If it's just the two you, bills should be split 50/50. It doesn't matter who makes more money. Your comment about the man having a better job is sexist and obviously not true since you also state that you bring home more money than your boyfriend. |

I would still split 50/50. You can take your extra and save it in a vacation fund or put it toward extra payments on a car, house, etc. Just in case anything happens later ... |

I'm in the same type of situation, and I have decided that the best thing to do is kind of pro-rate our bills. Since I make more than him, I pay the rent, and he pays the electric, internet, cable and groceries. If he gets a better job he will start putting money toward the rent. I think one thing that helped though is that we picked an apartment that was very affordable and say if something would happen to one of us, the other could afford to pay everything on their own. |

in our relationship---all monies go into the bank account and the bills get paid. since we share the relationship we split the bills 50/50. it doesn't matter who makes more as long as everything is covered |

How about you both just keep separate bank accounts and contribute equal halves of expenses to a neutral account. Just because you make more and he makes less doesn't mean you don't equally share expenses. 50/50, regardless of who is bringing in the dough. |

right down the middle, you do not make that much more than him, if it was several thousand, well maybe you take a bit more but a few hundred, you split down the middle, what if he gets a raise and your stuck with more bill % of the bills?? Down the middle! |
|

Well... since your money isn't combined. I would each just pay half of every bill and as far as play money, I would go dutch. You all just pay for yourselves. |

Its a partnership, so split them as best as the two of you can figure. These days pay is about equal for the same job, so its the kind of career people get into that makes the largest difference in salary, then its matter of work environment for things like promotions and raises.
Its why I got into computers instead of English, working on computers pays a lot better than writing poetry. I did not plan on only being able to live off the grid. :)
You could take him out on date night and cover one extra time a month and treat him. I can't think of a guy that is not going to like special attention. If the two of you trade off on it, it helps keep things interesting as well. |

In my opinion, expenses should be split according to how each person uses them, not by how much money they make. |

My wife makes almost double the amount I make (she's an engineer and I'm in tech support). The way we do it is she pays all the high dollar bills like the house payment, insurance ect..and I pay for utilities, groceries and other miscelaneous expenses.
Also I think men making more than women is a stereotype. I think women are very much capable of becoming engineers, doctors and other high paying jobs. |
