If I write For Deposit Only will the bank let me deposit my boyfriends paycheck?
And should I also include the acct. # on there? Additional Details It's his paycheck going into his acct but he's out of town and needs the money in there so he can use his atm card.
yes, anyone can deposit money but you may not get a receipt. They will mail one to the account holder !!
what?
if you try to sign a check made out to him, it's fraud.

He has to endorse the check
ILuvsnow
To make a deposit the only thing you need is for him to sign it and fill out a deposit slip, give it to the teller and she/he will give you a receipt.
There is no need to write "for deposit only" just put the amount of the check in the space for the total amount of the deposit. He should be able to access it after 2:00 pm.

Yup. If it says for deposit only. It can only be deposited.
I sign mine "for deposit only at suntrust bank - account number 123 456 789". That way they can only be deposited at my bank.

Anyone can make a deposit the issue here is the check because the bank needs his signature to access that money and deposit it into his account. So it's not about the deposit it's about the check.
If he is not able to sign the check it will be very difficult to cash/deposit it. I have known some banks to make exception but mostly because the teller is new and doesn't know you can't.
Give it a try the worst that can happen is they will not do it. If you know the bank or teller they are going to be more likely to do it.

as long as he signed it you should be able to...no need for the account number...they can look it up...and if they want to give you a reciept just tell them to put it in an envelope if they have a problem with it..that way you arent seeing any of it...his account info and all..that is how i did it for an ex-boyfriend. good luck!
Suzee
yah...i do it all the time

Yes, include the acct #. The bank will let you deposit it. You cannot get any cash back unless he writes you a check for it, then you deposit his paycheck and cash the other check.

yes, usually they will allow anyone to deposit the check to YOUR account, not your boyfriends.

I am sorry but the advice you are being given is 100% WWRONG!
you cannot just deposit others paychecks into your account because you write for deposit only on the instrument. Are all of you bankers?
If so then you are all still very confused the laws have changed in order to deposit an instrument into ones personal account you MUST have the party present to endorse the instrument in front of the teller and or branch manager then provide 2-3 forms of verifiable ID. Also another way you can deposit this individuals money into your personal account is to add him to the account ? which I would NEVER recommend.
the reason they do not do this is because the owner of the instrument(check) can return to the bank and say that the presenting party stole the check and then they must return the money to the issued. Thus involving a loss for the bank. and possible litigation costs to incur.
