If a check is written to me, can i cross my name out and give the check to someone lese?
?

divaqueen
No. However, you can endorse your signature on the back of the check and write: Pay to the order of ____________ (the person's name you are giving it to). This the only legal way this transaction can be done.

Lisa W
no. looks like fraud and they won't be able to cash it.

kirsten_larranaga
cant do that.

A M
No.

gabby
NO, BUT YOU CAN SIGHN IT OVER TO SOMEONE ELSE FILL IN THE DETAILS ON THE BACK OF THE CHECK YOU WILL ALSO HAVE TO SIGHN IT, I ADVISE YOU TO DO THIS AT THE BANK SO THE TELLER CAN WITNESS THE TRANSACTION.

Jess
no you cant do that

Samuel's Mommy!

saramar73

It is not accepted. You can transfer in some others name by endorsing on the back of the check, only if the check is not crossed as Account Payee.
The checks are crossed as -Account payee- or Not negotiable- or by two lines on the face of the check on left top.

The check can be endorsed if it is not marked as account payee or not negotiable.

You can't cross your name out ever, but you can make it what's called a two-party check.

Basically you endorse it on the back, and then write pay to the order of ____ (the next person you want to use it) and then they sign it when they want to cash it. This is basically "signing the check over" to another person. And I do believe you can only do this ONCE per check, as opposed to having a long list of people that have passed the check around before the last person cashes it.

Many places and banks will not do this, just too easily frauded...if you steal a signed check you can sign it over to yourself and endorse it and get the money, although it is also supposed to be the first person's handwriting.

Best situation if you are in that middle position, to pass money from one person to another...is to have the first party write the check to the other person, OR for the middle person to cash the check and write a new check off your own account to pay the next person, OR pay the next person in cash.

The bank won't take it.

As another said. You sign the back of it. Then write "pay to the order of.........". Then they can deposit it in their account.

tickled blue
no, sign your name on the back, then write underneath, pay to or deposit to the accout of _____.....then that person must sign their name underneath at the bank. You might also need to go with them to the bank for this transaction in some states.

No, but you can endorse the back and give it to them to deposit.

punkinsmom
i believe on the back of the check where you would normally sign it, sign your name and then under that, write "Pay to the Order of_______________" Then under that, that person would sign their name. You will want to call your bank to doublecheck.
