celery_is_the_enemy | If a person was rich.....? |
do you think they would eventually run out of things to spend money on?
Ok there's always the everyday bills like maybe a home mortgage or electricity and heat, air conditioning, etc... maybe the occasional vacation or two if they chose to do so...
But do you think a person could run out of things to spend money on otherwise? I personally think I might run out of things if I was actually rich, but if I ever did have that kind of money in the future I guess things could change you never know. lol
Just wondering and looking for opinions and insight. Additional Details Please note that I am not meaning to insult or offend anyone in either way. |

Nope, because there is always new gadgets, hots spots for real estates, fashion trends, etc.
Personally it would only take me a few days because I'm just not that materialistic :) |

I would speculate that people like Bill Gates have run out of things to spend money on. That's why he has given so much money away. |

jeff420, I think you maybe onto something there, you can never run out of things to buy, marketing companies will see to that. and you can definately lose your soul. something to think about, greed and money. |

I am guessing you have a grandfather, is there anything you can buy him he needs? I have found you don't need to be rich to have everything you need. Presents to older people I know are gift cards and cash.
The higher level of wealth a person has raises the bar on the quality and quantity of the stuff they have you cannot buy for them. People who have money travel more and have nicer / newer cars. But in the end trips are trips and transportation is transportation. |

i think there is always stuff to spend money on like cars, or maintainance of the house and other bills, and medical expenses. |

I think you could definitely run out of things to buy (and hopefully you would) because otherwise, you would get thrown out of reality into a money-hungry dizzying lifestyle made up purely of secular goods and have no soul, or any sort of rememberance about why you even wanted the stuff to begin with |

Oh no lol because there will be some new invention or electronic item that they will have to have. :) |

No, because when you're rich you don't spend money to an end like a person of modest ends does. That is how you can tell the difference between old money people and .nouveau riche Old money people unless they're spoiled trust fund babies, tend to spend more time and money making more money than spending on themselves. |

I don't think truly rich/wealthy people run out of things to buy. I also don't think that someone who has always had money blows it on stuff. They shop when they need to or want to but they are probably conservative in their spending. Someone newly wealthy like a lotto winner would probably go crazy and blow all their money because there is so much they wish they had. But say someone who has always had money like say Paris Hilton, who was born rich; is not going to run out and blow lots of money all at once because she has grown up getting what she wanted. |

I guess it depends on how rich that person was. |

I guess you can never run out of things to buy, just that you are usually prohibited from buying the most expensive stuffs. Such includes missiles, tanks, carriers. Best example: no single person can afford the cost of the recent Iraq war... |

If he does not invest at least some of it I think he would run out of money first |

I have never run into a situation where I thought that I am running out things to buy. The situation for me is, do I really need it? Not do I want it, but do I need it?
Then I remember I am only 26 with a million dollars and I have at least 60 years ahead of me. Things don't look so great then. |
