If employed full time does employer have to pay you on bank holidays?

Vickezo
if company recognises bank holidays, they must pay or give you time off, if they don`t recognise it then no.

T O
No they don't have to offer you any holiday or vacation pay.

If you actually work in a bank then yes, absolutely, because its their bloody fault you aint at work!!!

sammy o
As far as I know, if you day off happens to be a bank holiday (working with a rota), then you should be paid the normal rate. If you work it, then should at least be time and half, or double and day off in lieu.

yes, it does not matter if full time or part time EMPLOYED you are entitled to pay on bank hols as long as it is your NORMAL day to work. The rate may vary from type of job you do, eg shop work prob double pay or time and a half, or even a day in lieu. But if you are in a lesiure job possiblity of not getting any added benifits, but you are still entitled to your normal pay.

shaz babe
unfortunatly your employer has the say on this.
check your firms staff handbook or your contract as if it is written down that they pay you they cant say no.
if you dont get paid then you should get a day of in lew.
if you do get payed you should also get at least
double time!

No.

Did you get a copy of the company's paid holiday schedule when you were hired? If you are eligible for paid time off, you should be paid only for the days on that schedule.

Contrary to popular belief, NO. Your employer doesn't HAVE to pay you on a bank holiday. They are also NOT obliged to pay you any extra money for working a bank holiday.

LifeChange
As long as you work the day before and the day after its classed as a working day and you should get paid. If you have booked time off directly before or after you should still be paid as long as you go into work on the day before / after your holiday. In this case the bank holiday should not be used as a day of leave as its your entitlement anyway. There are exceptions to this - for instance if you work in the emergency services as these are not standard 9 - 5 jobs).

Basically if you pull a sickie on the day before/after the bank holiday the company is well within its rights to assume that you were also ill on the bank holiday.

If your talking about getting paid for working on a bank holiday then if its part of your contract then I guess its normal pay. Overtime comes into play if its not part of your normal contracted hours (again emergency services have different rules). Check your employment contract and see what it says.

Another thing to think about is how you get paid - is it a salary or an hourly rate/weekly wage. If its a salary then you usually get the same amount each month regardless as long as you have worked all your "normal" shifts

Sarah G
It depends on you contract if it is written in the contract that you will be given the time off then yes they should pay you for it. You are not entitled to the time off though it is a perk that employers do not have to give.

UOPHXstudent
Are you talking about receiving a paycheck on bank holidays? If so, they should pay you on what ever day you get paid bank holiday or not.

If you are talking about paying you additional money for a bank holiday, then no.

SIMON T
yes. you get a minimum of 20 days paid holidays per year but depending on your employer this 20 days may include bank hols. if ye lucky ye might get 20 days and your bank hols. it'll be in your contract of employment

Health Freak

you should do if it is in your contract, people who work for agencies only get paid when they work, if the company is closed on a Bank Holiday, the temp wont get paid.

Read your contract, if you are 'on the books' you should get paid or sometimes double time or a time in leiu if they have to close the office and you usually work mondays.

Hope I aint confused you :)

I see you

It depends on your employment agreement with them, some do and some don't.

yes as its a Statutory day off.
it will be taken into account for your yearly holiday allowance

Puzzleman
Each company is different. Your employers should let you now which holidays are "paid" holidays. If you were employed by a bank, it would be normal for the bank to pay you for "bank holidays".

gordon.gibson2@btinternet.com
yeah
