The true clearing cycle is 3 working days.
First day the cheque is paid into your bank it goes to the Banking Clearing House where the cheques are sorted and the banks work out how much they owe each other.
The Banks then sort the cheques and they are "sent to the individual branches or a central paying dept.= day 2.
On day three the cheques are received as above and the decision is made to pay or return the cheques.
Thus the money goes out of the account on day three and should be available "for value" on the account of the person who paid it in. If you want to know if the cheque is "paid" then your bank can phone the branch of the bank on which it is drawn and ask "is it paid?"
However, some Building Societies/Banks impose their own rules because of their inefficiencies and they will not allow withdrawals in some cases for many days more than this. They have the benefit of this money until they make it available on the account into which the cheque was paid.
Legalised robbery!! and it has been going on for years. Complain and demand interest be paid to you from day 3. |

If you pay it into the bank as soon as they open on Monday Morning, it should be Friday Morning when you can draw the money out of your account |

Usually 3 or 4 days , You can ask for special clearance but that costs a fair bit . I think about £30 last time I did it for business purposes. (A few years ago !!) |

Between 3-5 working days from the day you banked it in. In some banks, if you were to bank in the cheque after 2pm, it wouldn't be processed till the next day, so it'll be 3-5 days from the day after.
****
In this day and age with electronic banking and whatnots, I find it hard to believe anything would take that amount of time. I mean someone's written a cheque, and their account no. is on that cheque. That cheque is scanned into the computer, and surely it's a quick electronic check to see if the paying account has enough money to cover the value of the cheque? If there is, isn't just a matter of the paying account being notified of a payment being deducted and the recipient's account being credited? Shouldn't it all be done electronically within a few minutes (or at least at the end of the day)? Why does it have to go through "clearing bank" and all those hoops? |

About 5 working days, so you'll get your cash next monday.
As a rule of thumb you'll usually get your money the same day of the following week. |
