If my salary is going to be $61,000 a year, about how much could I expect my paychecks to be?
If I get paid weekly, and I get 3 weeks paid vacation and 5 weeks unpaid vacation time, and there are 52 weeks in a year, after taxes, approximately what do you think my weekly pay would be?

I'm a little confused because of the 5 weeks unpaid vacation time, if I choose not to use it, will I make more than $61,000 a year? Or if I choose to use it, will I make less than $61,000 a year?

Thanks!

I would go to this website:

http://www.paycheckcity.com/

You can enter in specifics to your situation and it estimates how much your take home pay should be. Aside from taxes it will depend on other deductions you may choose to make such as 401K contributions, contributions to flexible spending accounts for health care or daycare, etc.

With regards to your unpaid vacation, I would guess that the salary of $61,000 applies if you do not use the unpaid time, so it would be less if you decided to use it, but I would check with HR to be sure.

I hope this helps.

$5000 per month so divide that by 4 thats 1250 per week, then say you will get 75% of that after taxes and whatever so thats $937.50

I'd guess you take home about $3,812/month after all the stuff they'll take out (or $953/week) during the weeks that you ARE paid. You should clarify with your personnel rep exactly what they mean by unpaid five weeks of vacation - sounds to me like you won't get paid and that means you're $61,000 annual salary isn't really $61,000 (it's more like $55,135/year).

The question about unpaid vacation time would be a good question to ask your employer or human resources director. However, ($61,000/52 pays) times .72 = $844.62 a week, assuming that you are in the 28% tax bracket. However the question about unpaid vacation could change that figure significantly.

What I usually do is subtract about 15% of my expected salary to get an estimate of what my take home pay will be, but if you need specifics, I would talk to a Human Resource Manager. I estimate that you'll be taking home about $997 per week after taxes, medical, retirement etc. If you don't take out anything but taxes, probably about $1,040. The unpaid time should not affect your pay - It sounds like your position is simply a 10 1/2 month position. Unless you have an option to work 12 months - then of course you'll make more.

Based on 24 paychecks and about 29% taken off for taxes and 401(k), you'd be making just around $1,800 per paycheck. Count on about $1,650 per check though, as it may vary, I used the numbers based on my tax bracket and I am not sure what your taxes would be. If you get paid 52 times a year, you'll be getting around $800-900 per check. The unpaid time would indicate that you're actually getting a much higher hourly rate than your salary would indicate. That rate could be used as leverage when looking for another job (5 weeks equals 200 hours, raising your hourly rate by about 10%) to increase your compensation quite a bit if you state it as an hourly rate instead of a salary.

it depends where you live. Here in Canada it works out to be around $1600 cuz of the large taxes....

hi,

I guess you have to devide that by 52 weeks, dependings on if you are weekly or bi-weekly. Then 1/3 (pretty doubtful) will be taken on every check for your income tax.

The best thing is to discuss this with the Human Resources of the company. And don't forget to ask also what and how the 401k will be deducted plus the health insurance and dental insurance.

If you have profit sharing in the company or stock, better ask if you are given this benefit also for this will be one of the deductions. Goodluck.
