It kind of depends on your situation.
If I had any debt other than a mortgage that had an interest rate higher than 6%, I would pay that debt down/off.
If I had no debt, but savings equal to less than 3 months of expenses I would put it in/start a savings account.
If I had no debt, and plenty of savings, I'd buy something I really wanted or needed that was significant, but could be entirely paid for by this amount of money (I would NOT use it as a down payment to increase my debt load).
If I had no debt, plenty of savings, and either didn't know what I wanted, or didn't especially want anything, I would invest the money somehow.
If I really wanted to, or knew someone who needed it, I would surprise somebody needy with something they needed or give it to a charity.
Or any combination of these. |
