nitra | If u put a 100,000 u.s. dollars in a safe deposit box and retrieved it in 50 years how much would it be worth? |
i know its speculative, but im debating whether to buy a life insurance policy that is worth $100,000. hypothetically if i live to be 75, currently 30, ill be making 540 monthly payments of $14.36 which would come to a total of 7754.40, give or take a few dollars. is it worth it? |

If you put $100,000 in a safety deposit box and retrieve it in 50 years it will be worth exactly $100,000. Unless the United States governement folds, and then it will be worth nothing.
If you invest it, you will probably get a much better return than with life insurance, but life insurance has its advantages. For one, it's not considered part of you estate when you die, so it's not subject to the estate tax and won't ever have to go through probate.
Whether it's worth it to you depends on what you need. If you have a family, you definitely want to be able to make sure they have enough to get them through for a while after your death. If you don't have anyone who depends on you, then you're probably better off putting the $14.36 into a mutual fund.
The other option is to by term life insurance. Term life insurance is cheaper than whole life insurance. Plus, there is the advantage that you may re-evaluate every year the amount of coverage you need. Financial planners sometimes suggest purchasing term life insurance and then investing the difference. However, term life insurance never accumulates cash value. |

safe deposit boxes dont earn interest |

it would be worth 100,000 because there is no growth/interest in a safe deposit box |

Get the Dave Ramsey info...I would go term life ins. not whole life....invest some along the way....
safe deposit box...no interest.. |

It would be worth $100,000 minus the inflation over time. Don't buy life insurance as an investment. Buy it to provide money to support your family in case you die unexpectedly.

That's a strange question.
Buying life insurance is not anything like putting $100,000 into a safe deposit box for 50 years. Although $100,000 still has a face value of $100,000 it will be extremely devalued in 50 years, and not have as much purchasing power as $100,000 does today.
What exactly are you trying to use a life insurance policy for? Are you asking if the expense is justified by the risk? Because it is fairly likely that you will die at some inconvenient moment.
So if you reasonably expect to have some dependents that are relying on your income then it is worth it. otherwise you don't need it for yourself alone. |

Safe deposit boxes in America do not earn interest.

I think you're asking about a whole-life insurance policy. Consider buying term and investing the difference on your own, IF you have the discipline. If not, look into one of the hybrid policies. Your insurance agent can educate you on those. |

somewhere between 100,000 and 0...in50 years money may not be used, yes it could be worthless |

$100,000, if it merely sits in a safe deposit box, as it garners no interest.
Maybe you should be looking at long-term stock investment |

If you put $100,000 in a safe depoite box for 50 years it will be worth about 15,000 when you take it out(assuming we still have paper money in 50 years)
Buying life insurance is completely different.....it will be worth $0 to you because you will be dead.
Life insurance is bought to help those that are left behind when you die. You can borrow against Whole life insurance when it is paid in full but only a very small precentage of the value.
You can also sell a paid-up policy to a company that speculates on how long you will live. The longer they think you will live the less they will pay for the policy.
Best bet......real estate! Buy low-tax value property now and in 50 years you will be able to sell it much higher. Be sure to check tax values tho....yearly tax payments will eat into the profit! |

safe deposit box = $100,000.00 in 50 years, which may not be worth all that much. However, drawing the $100,000 for which you paid 7754.40, and depositing it at the prevailing interest rate of the time of withdrawal - that would be a good deal. Figure it beside a savings account with compound interest, to see if the return is what you'd expect. |

Putting it in a safe deposit box and asking how much it will be worth in 50 years is kind of like asking if you pronounce the capitol of Kentucky LouiSville or LouiEEville. |

it would be worth the same.I work for a bank. |

I assume that you mean will $100,000 have any real value in 50 years. Well, when choosing life insurance, you should consider what amount would be a great help to your family. If you have a $90,000 mortgage, than that will at least cover that expense if you should die and your family couldn't handle that bill. If you have $250,000 in debt at the moment, than you might want to increase it a little, in the event of some tragic death.
$100,000 wouldn't likely be very much money in 50 years, if things continue the way they always have, but that shouldn't be the only factor when deciding the amount of life insurance you need.
Hope this helped... |

umm ok I can use 2 more points. Yep it would still be worth 100,000 dollars in 50 yrs. |

You would have $100,000. How much it is worth depends on inflation and the world value of the dollar. Generally every 20 years the value of the dollar gets cut in half, so after 50 years I might guess that your 100k will spend like just under 20k. |
