If you're on salary do you still get paid over time?
i work salary and usually work my 40 hours but recently because of the holidays i works over 50 and not going to get paid any over time hours. is it mandatory for them to pay me hour and a half for the hours i worked?

I am also salaried,so I know your dilemma. The best thing about being salaried,is having the guaranteed money every month.Sometimes it is a pain in the ###.Because I'm always over 40 hours per week.Maybe your boss will give you extra vacation day like my boss. That is not the same as money, but it helps my feelings sometimes.I know you can't eat feelings, but a stable job this day and time is rarity.Good luck with whatever you decide.

No.

Heck no... but you can try to make up for it by leaving work a little early or showing up a little late to balance it out... just make sure you have your bosses approval... bet that your boss is doing that.

NO. Being on salary means you get the same pay and it doesn't matter if you work 30 hours or 50 a week. No overtime.

Generally, no. Not unless your employer is a real sport.

It's the price you pay for for getting paid when you don't work a full forty hours.

Steve
Nope...not if you are salary. I am leaving my current job for that reason and moving to one that will pay me for actual hours and over-time. The label of being a supervisor doesn't pay the bills. Not going to be taken advantage of any longer.

Sarah
There are 2 types of salaried employees: exempt and non-exempt. I'm not sure which is which, since I've never been a salaried employee, but one means you make the same amount no matter how many hours you work. The other is when you are paid overtime, in addition to your regular salaried amount. Ask your HR manager which one you are.

nope....its salary...not hourly..salary you get the same pay regardless of how many hours you work..it could be less than 40 hours or more the 40 hours, still the same pay

Vicky S
No. Thats why you are paid a salary rather than an hourly rate.

Salary means you work 35 hours a week or 160 hours a week. your pay the same. Granted you will never work the 160 hours. This is were you are paid the same amount every week or two weeks. the only difference for the checks are sometimes more taxes is taken out. But that a different story.

As a general rule you will work as little as 35 hours a week to say 60 hours. But say for example you work from 9 to 5 per a normal work day and then asked to come in cause your assistance is need due to net work problems, the company will compensate you in terms of mileage and other expenses that you incur. (Not a normal)

Depending on your job hourly is better. I used to work hourly and always had overtime, which the company hated. I asked for a salary pay, and the problem would be over. Know I work at a salary job and you start to miss that time and a half. 40 hrs a week all the time, general sometime it comes to 45.

nope thats why your on "salary"
