About a year ago, I had eaten lunch at a local burger shop. When I returned to my car, there, crumpled up against the curb was the unmistakable look of a Ten Dollar Bill !!! YaHOO !!! My lucky day !!!
Only, when I picked it up and uncrumpled it, it wasn't a ten dollar bill. It was a Hundred Dollar Bill. And this was in a time when I REEEEEALLY needed the money.
So I got into the car, happy as a clam! Started it up, backed out of the spot... and stopped. Thought. Re-parked the car. Turned on the radio. Waited.
About ten minutes later... 30ish hispanic woman, infant baby and toddler in car-seats, parks in the area. She gets out... peering, scanning, everywhere, for something. "Lose something," I asked. "One hundred dollar bill" she answered, somewhat frantically.
So, I handed it to her. I mean, what else Could I do?
She looked at me like I'd just pulled her kids out of on-coming traffic. She thanked me, blessed me, and drove off.
I hadn't thought about that for a while. Thanks for reminding me.

The moral thin gto do would be to try to track down the owner, but what are the odds of that happening. I would go to the police telling them I found it, and if no one came to them saying it was lost, I'd buymy husband something, I should probably pay my bills with it, but I'd rather be poor and happy, we have enough to barely get by becuase he works himself to the bone, he'd deserve something he wants. |
