If it was easy to determine who lost it... Like in your situation.. I would return it in a heartbeat.
Be nice to the janitor... He is a good man.
If it was a pile of cash with no indication of who lost it... I would hold on to it in hopes that I could determine who lost it. But I would be hestitant to turn it in for fear of someone else getting it who didn't lose it. |

I used to work for the post office, I had found purses, wallets and other items more often than you would think. I returned it every time and every time I felt good about it.. Much better than knowing that someone on the other end was really having a bad day in losing it and to get it back made them happy.
I would suggest returning it every time.
If you agree, send me $1. LOL |

I absolutely would. Especially in your situation where it was in your purse so it would have your ID in it so locating you would be easy. Without that, the right thing to do is take it to a police station and enlist their help in locating the owner and keeping it secure.
For goodness sake please don't carry so much cash with you. It's asking for trouble if the wrong person sees it. |

Yes, I would because I belief in God and carma. When I do good, good comes back. When you do evil or wrong, that comes back your way to or to someone you care about, so always do unto others as you would have them do unto you. |

It all depends, I learned this after I have returned money and valuable items and must of the time I not even got a thank you, I wasn't expecting for much but a smile, however, many people lose things because they deserve it, I have also been seen as I took the stuff by certain people I was trying to help. |

God is good, and you were very blessed that the gentleman that found your purse returned it to you with everything intact.
I hope that you gave the gentleman a reward for his honesty.
I have found money before, and I have returned it every time.
I could not live with the guilt of keeping money that I have not earned. My parents brought me up well, and taught me to do the right thing.
The only time in my life I made the wrong choice about turning in a purse that I found in a shopping cart, one of my friends and I were going grocery shopping and we brought the purse to the service desk in the store and the person at the desk said that if they could not find the owner, they would call us and my friend and I could split the money. We were struggling undergraduate students, and any amount of money was huge to us. There was eight five dollars in the wallet, no ids or anything...The person at the service desk was going to contact the police and see if they could find out who it belonged to.
Of course, we never heard anything and when we went back to the store a week later, the police had never been called, and the store manager did not know about the purse being turned in. He asked us for a description of the person who took the purse, and she did get fired. He gave my friend and I free groceries when we went in to shop the next time to thank us for being honest.
I felt terrible about not calling the police myself, I knew that money was an older persons entire spending money for at least a month, this was about twenty years ago.
We are blessed that there are still many honest people in the world, we need as many as we can get. |

I'd return it cos it's the right thing to do. And who doesn't feel good for doing something right? Any one with conscience and a heart does |

If I found a purse I would hand it into the police. If i found cash in a building i would hand it into lost property/reception. If i found that much cash just walking down the street i would keep it. |

I would return it if I could find out whom it belonged to. Otherwise anyone could say that they lost it. |

I'd return it. I've found cash on the ground (not in a wallet, just the cash), and I've kept that. But if I found a wallet or purse with ID, I'd definitely return it.
By the way, I hope you offered the janitor a reward. |

Ermmm, i cant deny, ive kept a purse i found with £50 in it... but there was no identification in the purse at all -what were the poloice gonna do with it? So i kept it
If it was a lot of mopney, i would return it, i dont think i could live with the guilt of spending that much of someone else money, when it gratifies my desire for money for a short time, some other person will suffer horrendously without that money. |

Not only would I return it, I wouldn't expect any reward.
IF you offered me a reward, I KNOW I would donate that money to my favorite charities. Why? Because what goes around - comes around!
Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed honestly answering it!

yes, its the right thing to do, i found $1000 in my school once in a bathroom, i could of taken the money, but one karma and two, that person needs the money back, so i returned the money to the office , the next day, they found the person, and she try to give me some money, but i didn't want to take it, that was something that i did to make my self feel good. |

i definitely would return if i knew who the person was that lost it....but i honestly dont know so much if i would turn it in if i found it randomly.[[example:someone dropped 100 bucks on the sidewalk and i wasnt there to see who dropped it]] but yes, i would definitely give it back if i saw the person who lost it. |

Here's the thing...if you got $2,100 for a tax refund then you are making pretty good money and while 2 grand might affect you, your standard of living will not be affected that much. The janitor on the other hand would be up an entire months pay, and that could dramatically effect his life if he chose to use it wisely.
Maybe God's trying to do good by putting that money in the hands of someone who could really use it to make a difference in his life?
So anyway short and simple I think I'd send you back your cards and ID with a note thanking you for your gracious donation and use the cash to alleviate some of the strife of at least one member of the lower class. |
