I would like to start a small company and open it on the west side of Chicago. I don't know what it would build or sell, but I would like it to be something that makes the world a better place. Then I would hire people and pay them a living wage, instead of the tiny bit they make working in service industires. Then as the company grows, we could running some social service programs in conjunction with the company....hey I can dream. |

Assuming it was a prize, I would donate $400,000 to the governments of Washington, DC and Frankfort, KY. With the remaining $600,000:
$100,000 to my church
120,000 tax-free to my 10 closest family members and friends
60,000 to pay off my home
40,000 on a new vehicle and new computer
That leaves $280,000 to save for the future. I would use that extra savings to look for a new job and probably take a trip or two. |

I spent it by investing for the future, setting up tax free inheritences for my two boys and an education fund for my Grandson. We gave some to my wife's family and did some traveling. Right here at 65 years old, what a great retirement package. |

A million dollars isn't really that much money anymore. I would pay off the debt of my family and FEW close friends. Also I would pay for my college. The rest I would put in a high yield savings account. I don't trust most charities to actually help anyone since the top executives in most of them are millionaires. They became millionaires off of peoples donations. So as far as helping others, I would do it on an individual basis. I wouldn't blindly hand out money to those who probably would spend it on booze or drugs or those who just refuse to work. I would consider helping poor, under privileged families. |
