If you can buy bulk, buy eggs, rice, chicken (bone-on thighs I find are cheaper than breasts or other cuts and have more meat than wings), pasta and some fresh veggies. You can make pasta with olive oil and veggies, chicken with veggies, chicken and rice. Eggs are fast to make and not that expensive.

Packaged food like mac & cheese or canned soup might seem cheaper, but are less filling and have no nutrients.

drink tap water, other drinks can blow your budget

ramen is a cheap source of carbs, also there is good old mac and cheese

eggs are a cheap source of protein, occasionally you may splurge on tuna fish

even though you are on a budget try to get some fruits and vegetables in your diet

look for opportunities for a free lunch or complimentary breakfast

The guy who owns Paul Mitchell beauty products was on Donny Deutsche The Big Idea last nite. He was talking about how he lived on $4 a day when he was starting up the business. Now I know $4 a day is way over $30 for 2 weeks, but he had some good ideas that you could use for a few of those days.

He used to get breakfast specials at the chain restaurants like Denny's for $1.99. He got eggs, bacon, toast, orange juice and coffee.

He would skip lunch and for dinner he would go to a bar that had an all you can eat buffet. He would order the cheapest drink he could and eat all he wanted.

I think the other ideas of eggs, beans and rice, and pasta were all great ideas.

Assuming you have a full kitchen (not living in a dorm or hotel or something), I'd buy a 5lb bag of beans, a 5lb bag of rice, a pack of chicken legs/thighs, a carton of eggs, a gallon of milk, a box of cereal, a cantalope, two heads of brocoli (all store-brand or the cheapest you can find). This is also assuming you have the basics like butter, salt, pepper, condiments, spices, etc, etc... If you don't have a kitchen or the basics, then you really don't have many options other than Ramen. And like the other guy said, canned soup and other canned foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner :(

Canned soup would definitely be a priority on my list. You can get a couple cans for $1. There are several different types too so that would help.

Hamburger Helper (the cheap version) might work. One of my grocery stores always has a variety for $1 each. The ground beef would be your most expensive item. It's usually a little less than $3 at my store for a little over a pound. One box will give you several meals. I recommend the lasagna. ;)

Also buy some bread, peanut butter, and jelly.

Since the hamburger helper recipes only call for a pound. You'll have enough hamburger left over to make a burger.

Fresh Vegetables, a big bag of rice, store brand pasta. I would do my very best to spend even less than $30 (still have enough to eat) Becasue if I saved enough, then the following month I can maybe buy more :)

Rice and potatoes will fill you up quickly and are vey cheap. Cut donw on any kind of meat.

I like to make spaghetti, the noodles are less than a dollar and you can get sauce for $1.50 and maybe ground beef for $3.00 and you can make the whole batch and for my family (2 adults one child) it last us for 4 meals, so it should last you longer.

Also we are hispanic and of course we are ALWAYS making rice. It is cheap and you can add different ingredients everyday to make it last. And like the lady before said add beans with it and it is a complete meal. And we get a whole bag of chicken at walmart for $5.

Just buy generic brands and eat a lot of left overs and you'll be fine. If all else fails, Totinos has $1 pizza's. Good Luck

Pinto beans. We were poor and ate them for weeks on end when I was a child. When times were better we even ate cornbread with them.

My children still don't understand why I consider beans ... a meal instead of a side dish.

I'd buy as money loaves of bread and peanut butter and jelly as I could. When I was in college I lived about a week on mayonnaise sandwiches. I would have preferred peanut butter and jelly.

$30 for 2 weeks, hmmmm. You don't have to eat,buy a multi-vitamin that takes care of everything that your body needs and a fiber mix. You could survive the 2weeks, hey you didn't say that it had to taste good.

lavengro59
Protein. The body needs protein more than anything.
