BOB | If you have a Capital One card, what is your overall experience with their cards and would you recommend one? |
Picking a new credit card can be confusing. |

We don't like their online capabilities since there is no way to automatically update our Quicken account until the statement has been posted every month. This is far behind the typical technology we have with every other bank card we use.
However, their cash back is a nice feature and if you use internationally, they are the only card company we could find which doesn't impose a surcharge for international use. |

I've had a Capital One card since 2001 and the only complaint I've had is that my credit is nearly flawless and they won't raise my credit limit over $2000. $2000 was great when I was a freshman in college, but more now would be useful and the only explanation I'm given is that they aren't honoring credit increases at this time. However, the following day I'll get junk mail from them saying I've been preapproved for all kinds of cards with all kinds of high amounts well over 2K.
The lack of being able to raise my limit led me to get a Nationwide Visa instead, but I still have my Capital one around just in case.
Oh, and I just remembered one other very important thing. When I was switching banks (I moved 800 miles), I accidentally paid my Capital One bill online with my old bank account number. I called Capital One to cancel the transaction (about 60 seconds after I completed it) and they said they couldn't cancel it at all. That has never happened to me with any other credit card, so i don't know if that is standard to not be able to cancel payments, but it was a pain (granted, my own fault, but still a pain).
Good luck! |

NO NO NO!!!!!!!!! Do not go with Capital One. They have all kinds of hidden fees, if you miss a payment your balance skyrockets and horrible customer service. You'll be lucky to talk to someone at all. Im speaking from experience. But make sure you check the interest rate and ASK questions before you committ to one. |

My advise to you...don't get one at all. If you don't have the cash, save save save! |

The best answer to that question is no. I had a card from them 7 years ago when I started working at a firm. But when I got laid off after 9/11, my unemployment check did not cover enough to make a monthly payment. As a result, my account went through collections and then to court where they had a judgement against me (even though I was payin them when I got a steady job). Two words: watch out!!!! |

When it comes to visa & master card ,
They are mostly the same . . .
Except for the rewards programs . . .
The cash back are great if you do NOT carry balances over , which negates the cash back value .
I pay the balances in TOTAL each month and pay no annual fees , Soooo , the cards cost me nothing
AND , the last 2 yrs , I got over $600 cash back using the cards !
I am using the Cap 1 now for some things because of their staged cash back on any purchase .
I am using another card for gas , groceries & drugstores because that card is doing 5% cash back on those .
A third card I use , has 5% back but not in cash ,
But in a credit towards purchasing a GM vehicle .
I have over a $1000 there when it comes time .
Otherwise , the billing , stores that accept them and the standard rental car insurance are much the same accross the board .
Check bankrate for the rewards choices on cards now . . .
The select a card link has 'low interest' as the 1st option but there are more on there .

I would not recommend them. They'll be fine until you ever become delinquent, which occasionally someone can't control due to loss of job, illness, etc....They are horrible, rude, mean, threatning and have no consideration for people. Good luck if you choose them. |
