If you lose yout paycheck(as in misplaced it forever) can you ask for another check?
What is the best way of going about dealing with this.

Yes, you can ask for another check.

I worked in payroll a while back and this seemed to be commonplace for some people. As long as the check isn't cashed, you should have no problem replacing it. If it is cashed, then they need to investigate what happened which could take longer.

If it's been a long time, the money may have been remitted to the government (this is called an escheatment). Even in that case, the money is yours so you will be able to collect, but your employer will have to direct you to who you need to speak to.

In any case, call your employer and ask to have the check replaced. You worked hard for your money (or maybe you didn't) and you should be entitled to it.

Good luck

Talk to the payroll person/department.

Like any check they can stop payment on it and issue you another. Of course, this costs money, so smile coyly when they charge you $25 for this service and imply some level of mental deficiency on your part.

And speaking of mental deficiency, welcome to the 1980's, GET DIRECT DEPOSIT!!! Managing a checking account is a necessary skill for all manner of homo sapiens. Direct deposit keeps that account full of cash.

Go to your HR dept or your boss, the person that issues the cheques and they can issue another one but they will need to put a stop payment on the first cheque to make sure no one else can cash it.

They won't be happy because to put a stop payment on a cheque they have to pay a fee but they will do it.

Let your workplace know and they will issue another check and void the first one. They may charge you a cancellation fee to cover it or you may have to wait until the next pay period but most places are good about it...

Yes, report it lost immediately.

They (your employer or contractor) may have a time of where they must wait OR they can cancel the check, and reissue a new one as soon as you report it.

Don't be surprised if they recommend Direct Deposit.

*Some crazy girl*
Talk to your boss. Alot of times they can void it if it hasn't been cashed yet and give you a new one!

Yes. Your company will put a stop payment on the first check and then issue another one. You should not make a habit of this as it might lower your job rating and affect promotions.

contact the people that give you a check and tell them you lost it... they should know what to do.

muggie48
You may request another because your employer needs to know that there is a check out that will create a problem. When you lose your paycheck you are responsible for letting the paymaster know so another one can be issued and the lost one investigated and a stop payment issued for it.

Yes, but they first have to cancel the one you lost through the bank, then issue you another one. There is a bank fee involved as well. Plus it's a royal pain in the butt for the book keeper. Buy the book keeper lunch to make up for your carelessness.

Yup. go to payroll and tell them they will cancell that check and issue a new one.

waiting
I work for a Fed Ex and am still waiting after 2 weeks for my check that was lost and still havn't been reissueda check. How long can they wait to send it? They keep telling me it's on it's way.
