I personally think $500 - $800 is my limit, but I'm a cheapskate. I'm curious to know what other people do. Also, I don't have car insurance, or massively huge student loans (they're very small because I did a teaching program that paid off most of them) and my credit card debt is a only in the triple digits. |

I would probably spend more because I don't have many other expenses like children or car or student loans, credit cards and am pretty much done saving for retirement. I haven't rented in 22 years so don't know what rents are but I would rent a nice house with a garage not a small apartment if I had to rent. |

We make more than that and we pay 500 for a nice 3 bed, 2 bath, 2 car garage, pool quit nieghborhood. Why would we pay more? I don't think your cheap I think your smart. |

Rent amounts depend on where you live. Where I live you can barely get a studio apartment for $500.00. |

You never want to spend more than 1/3 of your monthly income on rent or mortgage.
I'm a cheapskate too, but maybe that's because I'm a teacher also. Anyway, I would cap your rent off at $1G, but if you can manage lower, then go for it (I'm assuming the $37G is after taxes)! Go for whatever is the cheapest you can live with.... but, then again, I'm a cheapskate, too! |

I don't think what you pay for rent should be based on your income. I would find a place that is worth what you pay. I agree with your price range, if you were going to pay any higher than $900 you would be better off looking into buying some property. It also depends on where you live due to how different rent can be in different cities. I rent and my personal goal is to save up as much money as I can while I am renting and not having to pay for maintainance that comes along with buying a house/condo. |

I make just over 25k (part time) and pay 750 for rent, but that's split with another person. I would be willing to pay about 800 for my half at my current salary. I do however pay car insurance, but like you have no student loans and have a credit card debit less then 400. |

30% of income is what you should spend on housing to live comfortably. So, your limit would be $925 a month. |

well i make like 27,000 and pay $645 for a 2 bedroom overlooking the philadelphia waterway, so if i made that amount i would be willing to pay like $800 no more cause i would want to save it for a house! I'm very cheap too. But It all depends where u live at and what you could get for $800

none, because rent is throwing money away. you gain no equity. put it towards something that you'll own and will have value.
house payments of 350-400 a month vs rent of 500+ think about that. not to mention the small amount of space you get while renting compaired to actually buying a home. just don't get suckered into a bad house loan, like all those people who took on more debt than they could pay for, and are now waiting on the government to cover their butts, instead of dealing with the fact they were irresponsible with their finances. |

well your making about 3,000 a month I would say no more than a 1,000 dollars a month but I don't know where you live, I live in Northern Ca and if I were to pay 1,000 dollars a month for rent I'd live in a pretty nice 3 bed room HOUSE not an apartment. But I agree with you 800 would be my limit that way I could save some money for a rainy day. |
