Yes, most retailers just require the refund be on the same METHOD of payment. Unless it's some silly American law.
In Canada if someone buys me a present and pays with CC and it doesn't fit and I want to return it I can return it on my CC. |

If it's a credit card, it has to go back to the same account.
With a debit card, in theory they could send the money somewhere else or send you a cheque - but it's unlikely. Why set up 2 systems when 1 will do? |

Its not even technically possible unless they have a certain payback scheme like online casinos do. Even if it were possible, the chances of fraud are too high. |

no, it must be refunded on the original card and you can`t have a cash refund either. |

No it normally cannot be done as it defeats the object of a refund, the idea of a refund is the negation of the original contract, it would be highly unusual for a company to allow you to have it done to a different card as it would not be the original method of payment. |

No, you can only get a refund on the card you used during the initial purchase. They double check the card details against the last four digits which are printed on the receipt. If you don't have a receipt they will give you vouchers. You can't pick another card. |

Aye. Right!

Not usually - depends in the individual retailers. Often their terminals are set up to only refund the card it 'remembers' deducting from.
Not always, but usually. |
