I've sent cash before, but it's a risk on your part. I hid it in between some papers. It got to the designation safely, but there's never any guarantee, unless you send it via a registered letter with a tracking number...which I would recommend. |

thats why you go to Western Union but if you must do it threw the mail put it in an envelope/card like ur sending a regular letter to a friend far away, itll be unnoticable |

There is always a risk sending anything through the mail. Be it cash or a package. I highly doubt that the mailman would take any cash from an envelope if he saw it in there? If your going to send cash wrap it in paper before sealing it in the envelope so it can't be seen. Or get a security envelope that blocks seeing through it if it's put up at a light. |

It is never safe to send cash through the mail system. If you need proof of payment you should send a check or money order. If you are ordering something, the company may say they never got your money.
It is better to be safe than sorry. |

~~I'm sure the mailman would pick it up, they can't examine every envelope. It's a horrible idea to send it as it passes through many hands and unfortunately not everyone is honest. There is no way of getting it back if it were stolen. You have no recourse as you would with a check (being able to stop payment). If you are a paying a bill, you don't know if someone at the company may steal the cash and your bill will never be paid, so you would be out the money with no recourse. For your own safety do not mail cash.~~ |

i dont think that would happen....but, if i were you i would go to my local gas station and buy a money order in the amount you are trying to send and send that....you can track it and it is like a check. The only person who can cash it is the person it is written out to. |

seriously though, the answer is probably no. Wrap the cash in a letter (or blank paper) and unless you're sending a whole wad of cash, the US mail services would have no way of knowing what was in it without opening the envelope. How many opened envelopes do you receive? probably not many.
as evidence, my grandma sent me cash in the mail 4 times a year for quite some time and I always got it.
besides, mailmen are too busy spying on us under the provisions of the Patriot Act to have time to rip you off.
note, if the address is something obvious like Company Name Payment department at PO box 455, you may have more of a problem. |

Your biggest risk isn't the mail carrier. It is the recipient claiming he never got it or the envelope was empty. With cash you have no receipt. All remote transactions should have some type of tracking. Set up a paypal account if you have to. |

he/she might not but if that envelope "just happens" to break or tear while traveling, then there's no telling who will take it. So just get a money order, cashiers check or personal check. |

Probably not. But don't risk it. Besides, if you send a check, you will later have the canceled check to prove the person received it.
I mailed a check to someone once and had it stolen out of the mail. Whoever stole it changed the name and the amount and cashed it. But because it was a check it could be traced and the bank refunded my account. (I don't know if it was the mailman who took it, someone in the post office, or if someone took it out of my or his mailbox.) |

sometimes the machines tear the envelopes open. it's hard to figure out where money would go to.
and yes some people will steal the money. |

The only way to send anything with an intrinsic value through the mail is to send it Registered. You would be foolish to send cash by regular mail. |

Not safe at all! Any letter carrier that sees it could take it or really anyone else for that matter that happens to cross its path along the journey. Loss is another reason. Alot of mail is lost every year but not a large percent of the millions of pieces delivered. But...I am sure the mail man would unknowingly take it. Just on you if it turns up missing. Not really worth the risk just go to walmart and get a money order and make it out to whoever needs it. Then if its lost you can simply call and let them know and they cancel it and give you another. Money orders are just as good as cash. And anyone wanted strickly cash for anything over the web is most likely a crook. |

no no no! dont do it. your skeptical about it and for good reason. theres ways to send money thru western union and other places like that! look in to it more, because there are real ways to send money other than thru the reg. mail! good luck :] |

It depends, if your sending 10 dollars in a birthday card it is not an issue, but if it is an amount that would be a blow to lose you can send a money order, this can be obtained for grocery stores or convenient stores and can be made out to a person. These are safe to mail and easy to obtain with out much id or financial assets |

Ah! Ive done this before.
If the money makes the envelope really thick and you only have one stamp on it then yes, the mailman WILL send it back.
But if the envelope isn't that thick then he'll send it through.

People say you should send cash through the mail because if some one gets a hold of it u wont get it back. If you do send it. Write a letter and wrap it around the money so nobody can see whats in the envelope. |

It isn't the safest way to send money. You can do it but it needs to be well disguised. There are some countries that you should never send cash to due to corruption in their postal systems. I have done it here in the U.S. from time to time and never had any lost. |

it depends, the best way to send cash through mail is with a tricky container, you can send it with a box of cereal or ssomething like that, i did that and it totally works
