If I built up a business or investment portfolio into a million, then what I would do with the dollars is already in place -- continuing the growth.

If I inherited it, or if the prize patrol showed up at my door for more than asking directions to a neighbor, then: I would have taxes to pay, which would take about a third; as a Christian I would want to pay the tithe (old fashioned word for 10 percent) to the church I attend, and maybe set aside a similar amount for other like things, perhaps in a charitable trust; I'd likely siphon off something around 3 or 4 percent to pay off my mortgage and other debts, maybe take a little vacation; and the bulk of it would be invested. Investments might be in stocks, selecting from the more profitable and stable companies that pay dividends so their value would diminish the least in an economic downturn, and return a piece of their profits to the owners periodically. I think that companies that rather consistently turn profits will be more valuable in the long run, so their stocks would be more likely to rise as well. But then some might go for more direct business. I've pondered a shoe store, toy store, or even a clock store in the past. Maybe I could do one of them now. And if the one works, then open a chain. Maybe I could write some books that I've always wanted to write, and travel to some of the places where I've always wanted to get a direct look where people and events actually happened. So if it were the 'windfall' type of income, then I could pursue a direction that seems right -- instead of what I'm stuck with while working for someone else.

There would be a party and there would be a celebration, but it wouldn't be a wild fling with money flying everywhere. It it were the million or more that I made, the next morning would be the same, get up and go to work. If it were a gift or bequeath to me, then I get to decide what I really want to get up and go to work on the next day. That would be the fun freedom of largesse.

Pay off all of my bills, buy a house, buy 2 new cars and give my other 2 to my sister and brother in law and pay off my mom and dad's house and car. I think about this all of the time just in case you couldn't tell. Haha

Everyone with that kind of money I know uses most of it for investing in appreciable assets.

invest it and live off the interest, in a swiss bank so i wouldn't have to pay tax, after designing my dream home and buying a hard-top convertible and two horses.

I would buy a beautiful home up North with a few acres of land. Have a nice custom pond put in with fish and ducks. Our land would be completely fenced in and landscaping throughout. We would have a private tutor for our sons schooling, and a nice Hybrid or two for my husband and I. We would get 2 horses to ride and a nice barn built with ac/heating. lol Can you tell I have wondered this before? :D I could go on and on...but I will quit there

Buy stuff that i need, go shopping =) Give some of it to charity, take all my friends out for a vacation, and help save animals from extinction

Help people! Make sure my money was making money and then volunteer my time as much as I could.

First, I'd donate to humane society, few other charities. Give my family money, because each needs. Last, I'd pay-off bills, and buy a new car.

i would buy a car and a house and pay for college then put the rest in a savings account and let the interest pile up

How many times have I thought this through??? Wishful thinking leads to a lot of daydreams! :)

Buy a bigger, better house, a different car. Take care of my family and friends. Open and run a no-kill cat shelter. Take care of some of the homeless people in my area. Live off the interest.

Put almost 1/2 in savings account for retirement, give 1/2 to charity, and put the remaining little to a vacation (but no more spending after that).

i would open a shops all over the world that only sold clothes for the bigger and taller people of the world.
people find it hard to buy fancy clothes in bigger sizes.

invest...but also i would get real estate...pay off a a couple of nice cars...and travel...enjoy life but also make sure my money is multiplying...
